2-1/2 weeks in...

Okay, I'm getting a bit impatient now... I went in last week to swap out my spacers for (what I thought would be) 2 molar bands. Well... one of the ones that was previously "hangin' on for dear life" (lower-left side) ended up getting eaten by me at some point a few days prior to my going in last we...

Hi Viccy - Congrats to you on your new journey! As someone who also got the "bucky beaver" comments growing up, I know exactly how you feel. I only wish I could've had braces as a child, like my friends did. You are very fortunate that your parents have saved up to give you this gift. My friends thi...

I'm so glad you're coping well with your new "hardware". I think you lucked out with the lack of bracket-rubbing. Don't be surprised if a sore pops up here and there once your teeth really start to move. Just use the wax and you will be just fine. ... Still waiting for my waterpik... Think I'll have...

Larry - I have two molars that had to have spacers placed around them because they were crowned and the regular buccal brackets wouldn't stick to them properly. The hardest part for me was actually getting the spacers in, due to the crowding. Once they were in, for the first few hours it felt like I...

Yep - mine happened last week. My coworkers are accustomed to me "eating funny" (cutting my food into bits, biting strangely and taking forever) in the office, but a friend and I went out to eat at a food court. I was eating the most delicious hamburger I've had in ages; it was soft and juicy and I ...

My ortho offers a 10% discount if you pay in full upfront. He also has a family discount. Full price for the first family member, 5% off for each additional person. No breaks for students or the uninsured though :( Silly me - you're right. My current ortho did offer me a 5% discount if I got braced...

Subway chocolate chip cookie... Honestly, I think it took me over 30 minutes to eat it, and that was mostly by breaking it apart in little bits and "gumming it". So not worth it, to me. I'm one of those people who won't eat things if they're too much hassle (corn on the cob getting stuck in teeth; b...

I agree - just be honest and approach it with a sense of fun. Kids are more understanding and less ignorant than some adults. My 4-year-old grand-niece (who normally won't give me the time of day) saw me the other day, walked right up and just stared at my mouth. Then she pointed at my teeth. I said...

I agree with Audra. At my first consult, they wanted to charge me $6,175, with a $2,000 down payment. I told the lady "Well, that down payment 'aint gonna happen..." The only thing she agreed to do was lower that to $1,000, which jacked up my monthly payments to $275 a month. It sounded like there w...

My favorite foods for the first weeks included: yogurt (lots and lots), scrambled eggs (lots), oatmeal, ice cream (lots), mashed potatoes, and cottage cheese. Hope this helps. You'll get used to it pretty quickly. I must be a naughty girl, because I ate those things for the first 2 days... and then...

HI LEANNA!!! :-1 I was hoping you'd post your story here, too. I'm so glad that your first couple of days haven't been too painful. We're about in the same boat - it was tender, but not unbearable at all. Your brackets are so pretty and white as are your teeth. I had to whitestrip my teeth a couple ...

Yes, you definitely need to practice to get the hang of it. I also use Crest Glide because my teeth are crowded and it's the only one that doesn't shred.... ...until this week! I have a couple of very stubborn teeth that are moving, which is great, but they're moving closer to other teeth that they ...

I saw him this morning, and asked him how big my gap was, and he said, "Pretty big!" I asked for an actual measurement, and it turns out I was close. It's about 6 mm.

I also agree that I'd go with braces over crowns. I have 3 crowns, and the actual teeth underneath them are mere nubs... almost nonexistent. (Accidentally saw a pic of one of my teeth prior to the crown being placed on it - I almost barfed!) If your biggest worry is that your CPAP will press down on...
