Pardon the silly question, but what exactly constitutes impacted? I thought it was just if it hadn't erupted, but is there a difference that makes it specifically impacted?

Wisdom teeth...

So what's your story? Are all of them present and accounted for? Had them taken out years ago...or when you began ortho treatment? Did anyone have removal coupled with another procedure? Just curious if there's any general trends, they've been on my mind a bit lately  Personally, I'd never giv...

I thought that combining wisdom tooth removal with another procedure was relatively common -- is it not?

SARPE and wisdom teeth removal

When I went in to speak with the oral surgeon, he noticed that I still have my wisdom teeth on the top (have none on the bottom) and said that he could "pop" them out while I'm under for SARPE. He said that it'll be easy since I'm going to be under anyway, and that they could possibly get in the way...

Whitening toothpastes just keep stains down, on the surface...they don't actually "whiten" like a professional treatment does. That said, I'd ask your ortho...I don't think you'll do any harm, but why chance it.

Re: why do some people still get braces with ligs?

Appointments are farther apart to each other because there are no ligs to be changed. I would wonder how true this is -- I am under the impression that unless you specifically go in and ask for your ligs to be changed (bad staining, etc), that no appointment would be set just to change ligs -- inst...

From my (very limited!!!) research it sounds like a bone-borne expander will be used, as opposed to tooth-borne (which, from what I understand) are more common.

so my unprofessional opinion is that you would only need upper jaw expansion to fix the crossbite, and nothing else Your unprofessional opinion is spot on! (At least thus far!) Saw the OS, no mention of any other surgery. :D A bit more at ease about some things, others more worried -- but a relief ...

Awesome (creepy, but awesome!) I'm not sure how'd I feel if they were mine, though -- I love looking at my x-rays and stuff, but I do get a little freaked out if I think about it too much!

Different types of expanders?

I know there are different types, just curious if they work in different ways or if some are used in different types of cases. My OS showed me the type he plans to use, which is (if I'm understanding correctly) inserted during the surgery and will be removed in the surgeon's office with novacaine af...

Not completely on target, but I had TENS used on my knee after surgery. Can be really interesting when it's set too high!

Used properly, I don't think it could hurt -- are you or have you been in physical therapy at all? Maybe that's an option? That's where the machine was used on me.

Not braced yet -- but I plan to go with metal also and mess with different colored ligs. I figure they will be seen by anyone close enough to see them, and I might as well have some fun with them as long as they are there! Something about the look of ceramic just bugs me, too, not sure why. Just a p...

Are you considering getting it fixed because of a medical issue (bite, etc.) or because you cosmetically don't like it?

Honestly, I can't imagine any dentist doing that...

Is there any reason why I should do another consult before I see the OS? I don't think the order should make any difference, but is there anything I'm overlooking? Thanks again!
