Im here to help! I had an advancement in Aug 09 (even though I was not meant to) My upper lip pre surgery was very long and flexible and had a gap of like 2mm between top and bottom lip and only showed tips of teeth, post surgery it was very short and inflexible thats how I knew I had been advanced....

My before and after photos are DRAMATIC to say the least!! The ortho 1's are not a true representation as I took the befores in 2005 and the afters in 2009 I had obviously changed alot since then and when they show me my befores and afters I try to tell them I did not look like that prior to surgery...

I think they are right for making sure the reasons you want the surgery is to fix functional issues mainly and that they made you see a psychiatrist prior to commencing any long term treatment. @trish222 I never wore elastics post op. That could be one reason. Another reason could be because I never felt pain post op so moved my jaws alot I only did 1 week of ibruprofen and that was it so my jaw was moving from the get go... It seems to me that people who have to wear elastics to fine tune...
