Re: Gums swelling?

Swelling? Yeah! My gums will occasionally swell up, and then I have to go on an expedition back there and excavate whatever food got stuck... it's usually a bloody and smelly discovery, too. But OH! the instant relief.

Re: At home whitening caused recession...permanent after 2 d

I don't think you have anything to worry about... give it time. Brush your gums gently; that stimulates them! I had a recessed gum on a lower incisor that my dentist thought I'd need a graft for. Well, after a proper cleaning and brushing for several months, that gum has grown back all by itself!

Re: Closing extractions.... what did your ortho do?

I had four extractions and four gaps. Each gap closes in its own way depending on where your teeth were! Some of my gaps closed immediately because the tooth that was removed was being pushed out of the way anyway, so there wasn't much of a gap to begin with. Others took two years to close! My ortho...

Re: Getting extractions for braces

I had four extractions as well, two premolars on top and two on bottom! I have not noticed ANY facial change. I have a naturally thin face to begin with and the extractions did not make my face "implode" or anything like that.

Re: Elastics snapping

I just got elastics ^^ Mine are Light weights, so they don't snap very often. I try to eat with them in unless I know it's something I won't be able to eat, like a hamburger or a sub! I've had them snap a few times, but not often. I try to change them several times a day as well, definitely before b...

Re: Just got braces at 30 yrs old! - Need extractions! Ahh!

I had all four premolars (the ones next to your canines) out at the same time. It was a breeze! I was conscious. For wisdom teeth I think they usually sedate especially when they're impacted. Don't be too scared. I cheered during my extractions because I was one step closer to something I really, re...

Re: MY Braces Journey, 02-16-09 --> ??

I'm so excited! I had my appointment today and guess what?? I got elastics! Finally! Yaaaay ^^. I'm wearing them from first uppers to back molar. They aren't as tight as I imagined they would be. I'm sure I'll be less excited about this in a few hours hahah. I'm pink and purple right now for spring ^^

Re: invisalign nighmare

The wire retainers your ortho seems to be talking about are not hawleys. I think he's talking about permanent wire retainers, which are glued to the back of your front six teeth. They do not prevent relapse of any other teeth. Furthermore, a hawley won't protect your teeth any more than an essix-sty...

You can call and ask; however I know that for my case, my gaps have closed and opened multiple times and it was perfectly normal.

Re: MY Braces Journey, 02-16-09 --> ??

Ok, picture time! The only way I see any difference is comparing it to December of LAST year. But it does seem like my arch has flattened out a lot. Which I thought might be happening. And without elastics, too... I can't help but wonder if this kind of shift would have been faster *with* elastics? ...

I'm *TOTALLY* getting a rainbow next time! That's so awesome! Anyway, I've done a kaleidoscope of colors, I love them! http://a.imageshack.us/img514/8750/bracescollage.jpg Also in this picture you can see how a receeded gum CAN heal itself with proper oral hygiene. Check out that lower incisor... #8...

Re: Help with colored ligatures

I've noticed bad staining with light blue. I had to wear one set of light blue powerchain for 9 weeks (ortho had a baby!) and by the time they came off they were tan. YUCK! Neon orange does well, it just fades a bit. Green and yellow I just wouldn't suggest, period because they make your teeth look ...

Re: Does my ortho know what hes doing?

I think it's called "walking" your teeth. When you put on a powerchain, it only pulls on the part of your tooth you see. But the root of the tooth isn't pulled as far. So by taking off the powerchain, your ortho is giving your teeth a chance to "stand back up" before putting the chain back on and pu...

I'm 2 years in and I honestly don't look very often anymore LOL. Then again, nothing has really drastically changed for about a year so yeah. Nothing TO look at!
