Got em off today after 15 months



In an Essix retainer for 10 hours per day every day basically for the rest of my life haha. Gums are pretty swollen but they said it should go down within one or two weeks.

Aww, that is frustrating I'm sure. Your teeth will just look that much better when they DO come off though. Hope the next month flies by for you!

Hmm that is very interesting - yea I had no idea it was possible to count it in treatment and have the ortho do it. I doubt mine includes it just because he seems the type to charge extra... haha. Thanks Lynn. My ortho does make the retainers in office so he does not pay to have them sent out. I get my braces off and molds tomorrow and then go back a couple hours later to get the Essix. I don't know if it covers replacement sets... now I feel cheated at the price. My retainer fee is separate ...

Yea if you call they can set up a time for you to go in and they will probably just cut the wire so its not so long and doesn't poke. Or they can bend the end of the wire back in on itself so the end isn't sharp and that way if it starts getting longer again it won't jab so roughly.

Hahaha you must have been so freaked thinking your retainer had dissolved! That's totally something I could see me doing/thinking lol. Good thing ya still have it. I hope they don't make cleaner tablets that will eat away at the retainer... that would be bad haha.

Is the $250 the average price of a retainer in general or is it that cheap because most orthos maybe charge less for a replacement than your first one?? I am just curious because I get my braces off and retainers on Tuesday and I am being charged $650 for my Essix retainers. Is this abnormally high?

Probably depends on how familiar the person is with your teeth and how much attention they care to pay to your treatment. I don't think that anyone really cared enough to notice my changes.
