Seconded! Since it can be so difficult to get two seconds to talk to our ortho's, schedule one appointment without lip spreaders - to talk! Substitute orthodontists are weird. If they're not going to do any work, what's the point of letting them fill in anyway? I'm not sure about why ortho's do this.

If I'm being brave, I'd say that nothing about it scared me. Because I did go through with it! But if I'm being honest, I'd say I worry that it will affect my career. I'm very low on the corporate ladder, and it doesn't seem likely that I'll move up any rungs by looking younger than I am. Is that si...

Naturegirl, congrats on reaching debt-freedom! I'm still working on my pesky student loan. :)

If it makes you feel any better about not getting more consultations, I went on 4 and ended up picking the very first one anyway. Sometimes the first is just the best!

Orthodontists seem to be set up to easily service the needs of people who want their teeth straightened and don't need information. Those of us who want to know what's going on just have to be a little bit more assertive. And we have the right to it - we're paying thousands of dollars for their know...

Sherilynn brings up a good point to keep in mind - if you are able to get a loan to cover that 40% down payment, your monthly payments will be BOTH to the orthodontist AND to repay the loan.

Let us know what you decide?

Wow, good description, Emperor! I'm looking forward to progress, but this part does not sound fun.

Aah, it's too bad that your original orthodontist didn't give you any help back when this was first a problem! I'd register my disappointment in him on the reviewing websites. (Here, the popular ones are things like CitySearch.com and Judy's List. Dunno what the good ones might be for your area.) Ha...

Ah, thanks, beachbum! Yes, I'm just now getting braced. Discovered the message board early on in my research phase, and started posting when I found out what a great resource it is. You guys have seen me through the extensive vetting-process for orthodontists, through surgeon consults and deciding a...

Maybe this is why the sweet, grandmotherly lady at the front desk who processed my down payment said "drink a lot of cool things, that will really help you over the next couple of days" and winked! I didn't even know that I'd been given a thermal wire until I tried it. Now I'm aware of it, I'm tryin...

Hi, Melissa, and welcome! I'm not very well versed in overbites (having an underbite myself) but many on this board have been referred by their orthodontist for having Orthognathic Surgery - to correct underbite or overbite.

Has your ortho ever mentioned this as an option?
