Re: 5 Years on

I spoke too soon. My bonded retainer came loose from my right canine leaving only 5 of 6 teeth attached. I broke off the end which was poking me badly. I went to my general dentist to get the end smoothed down. He recommended that I keep the remaining portion of the bonded retainer. I took my hawley...

Re: Men with Braces

No problem being a man with braces. Just do it! I did and no regrets.

Re: Permanent retainer a necessity?

My permanent retainer has broken after 5 1/2 years. I am getting my dentist to remove it and will rely in future on the hawley which I still wear every night. Can't wait to feel the back of my front teeth again

Re: new tongue crib

I think anyone will have anxiety with new braces or other appliances, even if they otherwise do not have anxiety. I certainly did and my orthodontic treatment was minimal compared with yours.

Good luck,

Re: new tongue crib

It sounds like your orthodontist has given you just about every possible additional appliance, so it is no wonder you have had difficulty speaking. I seem to recall an unofficial competition on this site a few years ago as to who had the most orthodontic add-ons! No doubt your speech will continue t...

They look fine. Are you getting brackets on your bottom jaw too?

Good luck with your treatment!

Re: My Second Braces Journey @ 24

Yes those hooks look quite scary! Also, I notice your powerchain is placed on top of your archwire. I only had short chains and they were placed underneath the wire. I wonder if there is any reason for the difference.

Your teeth are looking great!

And did you get metal or ceramic brackets? How long will you have them?

Re: What would you do??

It sounds like it might be a trans-palatal arch. You can find pictures of them if you do an internet search. I never had one but I think they are quite common and people on this site who have had them seem to have adjusted to them OK. Don't worry, you won't look horrible- you will be the same you an...

Re: Has anyone found it hard to tolerate invisalign?

One ironic positive of having fixed braces is that you have no option to take them out, so you just have to get on with them and no willpower is required..... Good luck with your treatment. I think all orthodontic treatment gets easier after the initial stages-it just becomes the new you for the nex...

Agreed you have a great smile. Are you still riding your bicycle?

I hope your move from the US goes well.

Re: Braces after Jaw Fracture at Age 56!

Excellent improvement, Emily, but wouldn't it be worth keeping your braces on for a few more months to finish the job properly?

My treatment went to double my original 9 month estimate, but I have no regrets.

Good luck!

Re: Over 50s -

At 57 I kind of dipped my toe in the water rather than took any plunge. See my story below and my recent post about reaching 5 years since ending active treatment. I did not have major issues but did have problems with my upper front left quadrant which needed something done. I have no regrets other...

5 Years on

It is now 5 years since I finished my active orthodontic treatment. I still have a bonded retainer and wear my hawley retainer every night. Neither is any problem and my teeth have not moved at all. My only regret is that I only had my top front teeth straightened. My bottom teeth are not bad and my...
