Had you had multiple consultations before embarking on your latest treatment it's very likely that you would have learned that the treatment you were given was a compromise of sorts. Had you spent time on the Internet researching the particular options for your specific problems you would have lear...

I feel like I've been had.

Hey all I'm feeling really upset right now. :( I've had braces (for the second time) for 1.5 years. Before that I had them for 3 years in high school. Back then, they wanted to operate on my jaw because I had an underbite and crossbite but my 'rents took me to another ortho who "fixed" it ...

Thanks for the help guys. I feel a little upset now because when I first went to the ortho, I really wanted perfect teeth - i.e no flaring. I didn't realise this was the "compromised" treatment. Ugh. He's done a great job but now I feel like... I didn't get the perfect jaw/teeth I wanted.

Gum and teeth seem... rounded out?

Hello I'm in braces for the second time, 1.5 years so far. I have a long and complicated with braces/jaw surgery (or lack of) but it seems I have gotten through without having to undergo orthognathic surgery... my ortho recently told me I may get my braces off in 6 weeks. Anyway, I noticed something...

Blood in braces post surgery?

Heya I had a genioplasty and wisdom teeth out yesterday. Discomfort aside, I'm a little grossed out by how my pristine ceramic braces are now stained with blood. I have been unable to brush my teeth so far (I tried on my top teeth last night... but couldn't really move my lips/jaw to make room for m...

I had a reduction genio this morning. I am all numb and swollen but otherwise I feel really normal. So far I can't see the proper results but my long, asymmetrical chin was reduced by about 4mm so I expected a pleasant result. Um... I can't really talk. My lip and mouth are too swollen (I als...

Aahhh1!! I simply cannot reschedule my surgery. University is about to start over here and I'm already taking the first week off to recover; I don't think I could have my surgery in the middle of the semester while I've got essays and assignments due. I'm having some honey and lemon tea right now, t...

Surgery on Friday and I've woken up with a cold.

Hey I'm having a genio and my wisdom teeth extracted this Friday. There was some debate for a time about whether or not I needed proper orthognathic surgery (actually, several years worth) but eventually my surgeon said its no longer necessary (maybe I grew into my face?) and that he just wants to c...

I have a similar dilemma. As the other poster said, its because you get used to your face as you see it, but when you see a picture, the image is flipped - the opposite of what you see in the mirror. You therefore will notice the asymmetry more. I am not sure that anybody else does however, because ...

Australians and Medicare... claiming?

Hullo, I'll be undergoing a reduction genioplasty next February to correct an asymmetry and disproportion in my chin, that is a result of my mandible growing slightly longer and curved on one side... long story short, my maxillofacial surgeon think its not worth it to do full orthognathic surgery as...

Just genioplasty for me but I'm worried. Rant and questions.

Hullo. For the past year I've been in braces and posting a little on this board. On my initial consultation with my orthodontist he noted that I had a narrow top jaw/palate, and he decided to put me in an expander for 6 months (without SARPE). It seems to have done a nice job because my jaw pain and...

Changes to your skin

Hello,

I've always been curious about how orthognathic surgery affects the skin on the face. For example, when one has a chin reduction or similar, is there excess "flabby" skin that just kind of wobbles about? Do you get more pimples? Discolourations? Does skin get stretched?
