Re: essix retainer cracked after 5 mths?

Thanks, I did take these in an out a lot as required to wear during the day and so every time I needed to eat or drink they came out, although it's night time only now. They didn't offer to replace free of charge, which was disappointing, so I've given it one more go, however, I've asked for the new...

Re: incognito braces

I only ever had incognito uppers, so no personal experience, however the lower teeth are smaller so maybe less area of contact between teeth and brackets than uppers. You are right they should be fit for purpose and stay on teeth. My ortho "sandblasted" my teeth with a grit solution prior ...

essix retainer cracked after 5 mths?

Hi My essix upper retainer has several cracks in after only 5 mths of wear. I don't grind my teeth, cleaned daily with retainer brite according to instructions on packet, is this normal? It's been stored in a case when not in use, not eaten etc with it in. The lower one has one very small possible c...

I had an MRI, with upper incognito / Ibraces lingual brace and lower ceramic brace, no probs, I was told by the radiologist only a problem if scanning the head. My orthodontist told me to tell them it was the equivalent of 6-8 gold crowns, and also told me people don't get crowns removed for the pro...

My experience is a tactful email request an opportunity to discuss concerns at the next appointment works wonders, although I think it would be best received coming from patient rather than third party.

As someone who works in healthcare (although not dentistry) there is variation in how much patients want to know, some like me want lots of information others don't, sometimes this is hard to gauge, so maybe they are just not used to people wanting information...although it is good practice in medic...

I was pregnant during treatment (lower ceramics and upper linguals) removed a month or so before the end of my pregnancy. I asked my ortho for X-rays before I got pregnant. In terms of pain relief paracetamol was fine. No issues really, my ortho told me you couldn't expect to keep life on hold for a...

I've not had problems with a permanent retainer, I use interdental brushes rather than floss in that area and brush with an electric toothbrush with a small head. Mine is only on a specific area around a previously impacted canine so I have essix retainers as well

They are exactly the same product, both made by 3m marketed under IBraces in USA and Incognito in Europe.

I think it vairies from person to person, for me not very noticible, the biggest incovenience is eating, I tend to snack and this involves taking out and cleaning regularly. I didn't notice a colleague wearing an essix retainer despite working closely together all day last week. My friends don't thi...

I had sucessful treatment with linguals for an impacted canine which I was told was one of the harder things to treat in adults with any kind of brace, but linguals (Incognito / IBraces) could do anything any other type of brace can do, no meniton of longer time scale although for me as it wasn't vi...

Yes, retainer will correct. My retainer was very tight and I could feel a little discomfort as it moved teeth back into correct position, this only took a day, maybe less

No, I didn't have a referral from my dentist and was told you don't need one if having work done privately. There are lots of orthos to choose from, you might want to select another if they are putting up barriers before you have started treatment. I would definitely recommend a couple of consultati...

I did this with poladay 15% gel, the first time I overfilled the trays and it went everywhere. Then I applied the gel to the teeth rather than the trays and that worked well, no sensitivity, sore gums or streaking. I continued until I completed the course (14 day left on for 30min). My teeth went to...

Thanks, cotton swabs have worked. I'm 24/7 for 6 mths so hope to keep them clear for that time, and then after that less bothered. Trying desperately to keep wear time as high as poss, but pregnant and can't eat much at once, but do need to get the calories in somehow, so I don't loose weight. Reall...
