My dad has the same crooked lower jaw that I had. I never noticed because he has had a beard since before I was born, but I finally saw a picture of him beardless at 16 and it is identical to my jaw!

I was debanded at 15 weeks post-op; my ortho said the earliest he debanded was 12 weeks. 11 doesn't seem too off to me!

Do you have any photos of your lower jaw? I had a problem with my condyles as well and my right side of the jaw was lower than the left. I can't imagine that a genioplasty would have helped my appearance (or the discomfort from my bite), but I would have to see your individual case to say for sure w...

I'd like to know this as well. I'm 12 weeks out and my upper gums and a large part of my palate are still entirely numb, no tingles no nothing.

I would go with a devoted oral surgeon who teaches this, writes about it, and does it often. The better the surgeon the better the results.

I had a very long, thin face with sunken cheeks before having surgery. I had Le Fort and BSSO though so I'm not sure I can help you with just the genioplasty... the Le Fort pulled my upper jaw forward so I do have round cheeks now and the BSSO made the lower third of my face shorter which balanced o...

I went on vacation three weeks post-op and it wasn't bad at all. I was on soft food at that point so I had no problem getting pancakes for breakfast and pastas and fish for dinner & lunch. My energy was fairly good at that point too. The only thing that makes me wary about your situation is that...

I was numb up through the 7 - 9 week mark. It's funny to me to see so many people immediately after post-op worrying. It took me a while to get it all back (basically the left side of my face from the eye down was numb) and I did. Just be patient!

I would call your OS. Mine told me to call her for an appointment if my swelling ever went back up again (and I'm 10 weeks out now).

The total cost of my surgery was $49,000. Granted I have insurance, I am still paying $5,000 out of pocket. $15k compared to $49k doesn't seem so bad to me.

I echo everyone elses' sentiments: do whatever your surgeon says is okay. I was on soft chew (pastas, fish, pancakes, etc) on day 10 but I've seen people on here who haven't been put on soft food diet until six weeks. It all depends on what you've had done and how your surgeon does things. My nerve ...

I'm not sure of all of the "lingo" but I can give you my experience with elastics (I had a one piece Le Fort and BSSO): Two weeks of light elastics (rectangular shape, connecting canines to the tooth next to them and then down) Two weeks of medium elastics in a parallelogram shape (canines...

My surgeons did molds and "operated" on them before my actual surgery as well. I was told 2 1/2 hours for each jaw and I think my surgery ended up being right around the 5 hour mark.
