I had my first dental cleaning today since I got my braces put on, and I had no problem at all. I called the dentist ahead of time to make sure they didn't want me to get the wire removed but they said it was fine. The flossing part just took a bit longer!

I've been using ACT (the generic kind) but I decided to pick up the Cool Mint flavor of Phos-Flur at the pharmacy today. I couldn't believe how pricey it was, but since my Orthodontist recommended it I thought i'd give it a shot. I have to say i'm really disappointed in my decision; i'm not a fan of...

I definitely have not lost weight with my braces. Even if they are sore, they still haven't stopped me from eating my favorite desserts

Perhaps i'm not the best person to respond to this as i've only had mine on for a month, but I really don't think my smile will change significantly. I might smile bigger, to show my straight teeth off, but that will be entirely intentional

I just have a quick question about my ceramics so I thought i'd post in here... What is the difference between wire ties and clear rubber ligs (I hope i'm getting this right) other than the obvious? My Ortho put white wire ties on mine, which i'm pleased about because they are stain resistant, but i...

I have ceramic on top and bottom (I was really worried about the appearance) and i've had no problems. The only reason I wish I would've gotten metal on the bottom is because of money. Knowing what I know now, it would've been fine. The tops are the most visible. I've had no staining or problems wit...

You guys were spoiled with your fancy toothbrushes :P

I got:
Water bottle
Travel toothbrush
Wax
Small thing of floss & threaders
List of foods to avoid
Toothbrush
Mouthwash (but they were out of mint, so I was forced to get grape--yuck!)

I had a cup of coffee the other day for the first time since getting my braces on and no damage was done! Great news because I tried to live without it but I couldn't last long (only a week). :-*

Re: I got braced 5 days ago and am feeling really bad...

Wow I expected that it would be tight and uncomfortable. But my cheeks are so ripped up and i feel so ugly as an adult in these things. I have metal bottom and clear top. It is depressing, but im hoping it gets better. Anyone have advice? Firstly, congrats! You're closer to getting a perfect ...

I send the ortho an e-mail every other day it seems with a new question ... but so far they are nice and helpful but I would imagine I am probably driving the office staff crazy and my e-mails are probably being discussed in humor. Well, better to be safe than sorry right? I'd love to invest ...

WOW! What great responses, thank you! :D So glad i'm not alone in this... Please continue to try flossing- what brand of floss are you using? I'm using the floss they gave me at the office (satin floss?) with a threader but it's not strong enough. The threader isn't really working out for me either;...

Thanks for the words of encouragement everyone! I really appreciate it. Hopefully these next couple years will go by fast... Another quick question: I'm beginning to notice a lot more spit in my mouth and it's really uncomfortable for me. Does this go away with time or is it an ongoing thing? I can'...
