So no one thinks the doc may have been against weed because it is illegal? That was the first thing to come to mind. I guess I didn't realize how many people not only smoke weed but openly admit it.

It has been almost 4 months since my surgery. My orthodontist is working on closing my bite (just the side jaws and I am wearing rubber bands for it, just took them out for the pictures) and then I will be done. My surgeon has me exercising my jaw with Popsicle sticks taped together. He said the min...

Hope this doesn't sound bad but......my husband and I were **active** again at 2 weeks post op. I was not wired shut and was able to take my rubber bands out to eat so I was comfortable using my mouth for things other then eating at around 1 month post op. But it may have something to do with droppi...

I don't have too many answers but I do want to say that I had a BSSO and did not order Zip n Squeeze bags. I used baby spoons until my mouth could open enough for a regular spoon but if you will be banded or wired shut I am not sure how eating will be.

In response to the question about a splint after a BSSO. It is fairly common for them to be used. The reason my surgeon used one on me after my BSSO was to hold my jaws in the correct position. The surgeon put my teeth in what he called a "tripod occlusion" meaning only one of my front tee...

Another suggestion would be to make sure you have a bottle of water before take off. Swallowing helped me immensly when I had the 15 hr flight from Japan to California 3 weeks after my surgery. Yawning was difficult with the bands so swallowing was the only resort for me. Hope you have a great and s...

As OzzysMom stated I truly believe that while you may think it is purely cosmetic just wait until you see the orthodontist. I bet that he will tell you of several issues that you may already have or may have later in life. If by some miracle he doesn't diagnose any issues I would probably still go t...

So I am back with ear pain again! Apparently my surgeon over correct my bite and not the orthodontist is trying to create the slight overbite that everyone is supposed to have. Right now both of my jaws are even and my teeth hit. He put me in a lovely check mark type configuration that goes from my ...

I lost 15 lbs and have luckily been able to keep it off. I was not wired or banded at all and had a BSSO. I was over my BMI before surgery so loosing the weight was welcomed. The doc said if I lost more then 15 he would put me in the ER so I stayed at that mark :)

If you look at my blog you will see our profiles *were* similar. Aside from the fact that my teeth were horribly crooked our bottom and top jaw positioning seems to be similar. I had a BSSO (Bilateral Sagital Split Osteotomy (sp?) ). The orthodontist was able to make it to where I didn't need upper ...

Blinderboarder- I am noticing the same thing. I am severely favoring my right side when chewing. The left doesn't seem to have the room or ability to chew nearly as well. I think I have some crazy swelling going on on the inside of my cheeks back near my molars but I am going to ask my surgeon about...

Not sure why your ortho would tell you no electronic toothbruch but I know that it is perfectly exceptable to use it while having braces. I think that other then checking with your surgeon I believe it would be ok to use whatever toothbrush you wish after you are able to open your mouth enough for i...

I was told not to use a straw for the first 2 weeks. As was stated earlier it was because it could cause bleeding. I am sure at 4 weeks you are fine.

Ok about the splint. I had a BSSO 7 weeks ago and had a splint. The splint is used for more reasons then just a multile LeFort. It was used in my case because when the surgeon moved my lower jaw forward he put my bite into what he calls a tripod occlusion. This means that only one tooth in the front...
