Hi Teri, I didn't have the build ups, but just after I got my braces (on October 23, 2007), I was a little panic-y because my back teeth didn't touch at all and I thought it would stay that way and I would starve to death! I found that my teeth started to fit together better after 5 -7 days. It didn...

welcome! I am on month 3 (I've had 2 adjustments already) and I got used to having braces pretty quickly. I was told I'd be in braces 14-16 months, and in month 3, I see some AMAZING changes, I couldn't be happier at how things are progressing --- which is a good thing, because seeing progress helps...

funshine is right - the ligs just hold the wire to the bracket tightly. without the lig, it will be easier for the wire to pop out of the bracket. just be careful when biting and chewing, and make sure to call your ortho if you feel that wire move or pop off.

take care and hang in there!

This happened to me too. About a month after I got braced, I noticed a gap that opened up. When I went back for my first adjustment, the ortho put on a powerchain and it closed up in a couple of weeks. My ortho mentioned that this may happen a few times in the course of treatment, but told me not to...

The appointment went well, thanks! No color --- but that's a good thing, since there is no more plastic in my mouth right now! My clear ceramic uppers are tied in with wire, no more powerchains or ligs needed, yay! I'll save the colors for the elastics, which I will most likely get on my next visit ...

Hi Chris,

I'm in Orlando too, and like you, I got all mine tied down with wire at my first adjustment. Plus they put this powerchain thingy on my top 4 front teeth and that sucker HURT!

I wonder what new torture they will dream up for me on my second adjustment, which is on Tuesday! :x

Jeter, apparently I'm not supposed to share their names on the board, but they are 3 orthodontists that practice in Longwood/Lake Mary. Feel free to PM me and I will share their names with you. Thanks for the welcome, Rhonda! I can actually hardly wait to get to my appt on Tuesday, my ligs look icky...

You're doing great, Pebbles! Have a little bit of faith --- before you even realize it, your teeth will fit together, maybe not the same as before, but you will adjust to chewing and in about another 4 days to a week, it will feel very natural. What they are doing to our smiles is nothing short of a...

Welcome! Like you, I just found this place and it's fantastic! Lots of info and reassurance that things will get better and better! I'm <gulp> almost 41 and I just got braced on October 23, 2007. I have a total of 14 months to wear braces, also to correct some moderate crowding. So far it hasn't bee...

BracedUpG8rGrrl's journal

So first, the details: Who I am: I'm Christy, a hella cool almost 41-yr-old who feels and acts more like a 25-yr-old who lives in Central Florida. What made me get braces: Mild to moderate upper and lower crowding that got worse with time. My prognosis: 12-14 months in braces for the above mentioned...

They look great, congrats! Don't be embarrassed about a loose or popped off bracket, it happens all the time! My ortho said it happens most with folks who still insist on biting into hard foods, but when it happens within a week or 2 of being braced, it was most likely a surface that wasn't bonded s...

Congrats, browneyedgirl, you did it! 12 months will go by before you know it, and I don't think you will get tired of people thinking you're only 19! :D Hopefully you're not in too much pain and I think you'll get used to having braces pretty quickly, since you've had them before. Eating will always...

I just got my braces 3 months ago, and I had IPR on my 1st adjustment visit. It was no big deal at all. I had the "black triangle" - the top part of my two front teeth was narrower than at the bottom, creating a triangular space at the top of my two front teeth. To eliminate this, the orth...

Hi Julie, I'm new here too. I've had my braces for about 3 months, I'm <gulp> 2 weeks away from turning 41. Like you, I have a daily Starbucks habit (believe me, Central Florida does NOT want me on their roadways without that damn cup in my hand, LOL). I started out with the tooth colored ligs, and ...
