I had a quad helix which is a different type of expander, I spoke really funny for about 2-3 weeks and also had the saliva issue. After a while I forgot it was even there and it was second nature and felt weird when I got it cut out. Keep persisting and see how you go, they work really well and for ...

I went back to see my ortho about the retainers, he has agreed to put a bonded on my lower teeth but is still adament the bonded upper will break. I asked him if my expansion is a factor and he explained it wasn't, all he really said was "your type of bite will break the retainer", when I ...

That would make sense, I'm not sure why my ortho hasn't told me that instead he has just said "I don't like using them because they break" Even in the case of expansion issue, if I was to have the bonded upper and still use the hawley at night time I wonder if that would suffice I'm contem...

I also forgot to add, I wore a quad helix on my upper teeth to widen the arch.

This could be another possibility of not wanting to use the bonded?

Thanks for the reply drrick. Sadly though, I feel my ortho doesn't really care about my opinion or any issues I will have. He will not even give me an answer on why they're not suited for my case. By all accounts I don't have any gum issues and hygiene is certainly not a problem as I not only brush ...

My ortho is the same, I requested bonded top and bottom and he gave me hawley's instead which I really don't like.

His reasoning was the top bonded ones will break alot, and the bottom bonded doesn't suit my case. I think some ortho's are just used to one way and they refuse to deviate.

Bonded Retainers

Has anyone here got bonded top and bottom? I requested that setup through my ortho and instead he slaps with me hawleys top and bottom!

Even when I requested the bonded on the bottom, he told me it's not suited to my case, and he won't put one on top because he says they always break.

Any ideas?

De-banding date but with a few questions

I have booked in for my de-banding date but when I asked about the choice of retainers they basically said there is none. I was told I would have a Hawley retainer, I asked if I could have the bonded retainer which is my preference and they said they rarely use them. Is this typical practice? Should...

okay, I'm due for elastics pretty soon here and I'm a bit concerned after reading some of these posts. If you sometimes can't even open your mouth to eat - how are you supposed to talk? And if you can't take them out, and you can't talk with them in, how are you supposed to work when work requires ...

When I only wore an elastic on one side I used to eat with it, now I have them on both sides I take them out - it's just easier otherwise they can come off and you end up nearly swallowing them.

Gap

Prior to getting braces I had a problem molar tooth right at the back which became infected and had to be extracted - not long after, a wisdom tooth came up into it's place which all seemed fine because it was almost like I never even had an extraction. For the past 5 months I've been wearing elasti...

When I first got braced I thought I wouldn't eat a burger until I got them off, within a few weeks I wasn't eating a burger and after a while you just eat whatever you want, so it didn't change at all for me really

Saw the ortho, he just changed my powerchains and tweaked the bottom wire a little bit to hopefully bring the teeth back. I'm still biting on the bracket though, hopefully it clears up in a couple of days, if not I might have to go back in, it's very difficult to eat I'm almost just swollowing every...

Hitting bracket

The ortho has begun to close the gaps on my bottom teeth via chains and elastics but the elastics seem to be pulling by bite down a bit and my top teeth have began to hit my bottom bracket. I rang the office and spoke to a nurse who said it wasn't a big issue and to put my mind at "ease" I...
