Re: Dentist appt. vs ortho appt.--EEK!

By the time you read this your appointment will have come and gone. I hope you do OK, but I just wanted to post and share my experience b/c you are not alone. I had a very serious dental phobia as well. I say had b/c I seem to be mostly over it and I think I have ortho work to thank. I wasn't as bad...

And thanks! BTW. Yeah. I'm super happy I went though all this. Well worth it. I have so much more self confidence now.

Re: Feeling hopeless; My story

Call the office and schedule an appointment to chat with the doctor about your case. Doctors don't have time to talk while you are in the chair. Perhaps he can go over his treatment plan with you and alleviate some of your worries.

Re: Feeling hopeless; My story

While jaw bones are usually fused by 19 there is no hard fast rule. Everyone is different and averages don't always apply. You may be one of the "lucky" ones whose bone is not entirely fused yet. Maybe your ortho saw evidence of the jaw bone widening. All in all this is good news. On the o...

Re: Is it ok to have your teeth filed???

I had my two front teeth filed so they could meet up better and reduce a black triangle. Then, once my braces were off, I had some filing done to my premolar and molars upper and lower on my right side to help fix some minor bite issues. The amount of enamel taken off is minimal. Studies have shown ...

Re: Wiggly bottom teeth still after braces removed.

I do not have periodontal issues and it was about 9-12 months after my braces were removed before I felt comfortable biting into anything with my front teeth. They just felt too wiggly when I used them. So yes, unfortunately it really can take awhile for them to firm up. I don't think my experience ...

Re: The price of a new retainer $290?

I don't remember the exact price, but I was told something like 250-300 would be the cost if I lost or, for whatever other reason, needed a new retainer.

Re: New at this

I don't know much about open bites. However being only 16 your mouth is still very pliable and your jaw bones are not fused together yet (as they are in adults). Given this there are more options to use appliances to correct things rather than surgery which is sometimes the only recourse adults have.

Re: Extractions and thinning of cheeks. Is this normal?

I've been out of braces for about a year and a half now. I had 4 premolars removed. I have a slight change to my profile (nose looks a bit bigger) but no change at all when looking at me from the front. I don't really care about the profile change. It's not good. It's not bad. It just is. I'm one of...

Re: Calling All Hawley Retainer Wearers--Help Please.

I gave up on my Hawley. I'm back to my Essex. My bite is still a bit off b/c of it, but I can live with it. I was using the loops as you do Takako to take off the hawley, but the retainer was so tight after taking them out and putting them back in a few times I found that those loops no longer sat s...

Re: I didn't know this would happen

well think of it this way some people (me) get told my their orthodontist that they need to get teeth pulled out so they do it. then it turns out it wasn't necessary. I'm sorry. Not to be rude. (And I really am sorry that your extractions were unnecessary). But I don't understand how knowing this h...

Re: Bone loss / black triangle caused by ortho treatment

Regarding to the bonding you had I didn't have bonding. Sorry if I gave you the impression that I did. I only needed IPR and my gum tissue filled in enough of the triangle for me to be happy. And I couldn't watch the videos. I have a pretty serious dental phobia. I got about 10 seconds in before I ...
