Hey, I transferred orthos about 3 months into my initial treatment. I live in Philly but go to school in Pittsburgh, so I told my first ortho about my dilemma, and was advised to just switch to an office out in the Pittsburgh area. Prior to my departure he gave me a listing of orthos in Pittsburgh, ...

Purpleteeth, my ortho never explained why, but I only have partial wires in the front, both top and bottom. Believe it or not, I actually just eat with the elastics in, I find it much easier that removing them all the time. However I'm reduced to cutting my food into tiny portions.

My ortho refuses to give out prescription pain medication, so I use Motrin and it works pretty well. I use the 200mg tablets and take 3.

Progress Report

I haven't been around in a while, but I wanted to post some photos of my recent progress. I was pleasantly surprised when my ortho informed me at my last appointment that I was nearing the completion of treatment. I actually came quite close to tears, as the end did not seem anywhere in sight. Strai...

Thanks for the reply guys! I'll certainly ask him about that at my next adjustment.

P.S. Sandra, I had 3 rotated canines that were wire tied and dear God, that was the most painful part of treatment to date! It was about 3 months before those stopped hurting!

VistaXP, No I didn't have any such appliances, as my extractions were conducted solely for the purpose of creating more room. I had my extractions done a few months into treatment and went without either archwire for about 6 weeks to allow things to move about a bit. I hope that helped!

I'm a 21 year old black female who had four extractions that went well, and actually saw no real difference in the shape of my profile.

Figure 8 vs. Wire Tie

At my last visit to the ortho, I had a slightly rotated tooth tied with a figure 8 configuration. It's been about 3 weeks now, and I have yet to see any progress at all, which annoys me a bit. I began treatment with a different ortho who used wire ties to rotate a few teeth into the correct position...

I got braces purely for cosmetic reasons. I see no shame in being vain and desiring the perfect smile, and I must admit while others felt that my smile was lovely to begin with, I am absolutely thrilled with the results thus far.

Hi Phil098342wq, I've had minor problems with chapped lips off and on, and one of the best things to do (as many have already stated) is to drink water. A self-proclaimed chapstick junkie, I'd advise against using anything with petroleum in it, including Vaseline and Aquaphor because your skin does ...

dubnobass, there are a wide variety of dental accessories that can be found in the US, and I've found the widest variety at Walgreens, and Target stores. I'd suggest checking their online sites for an idea of what they carry. Also drugstore.com, RiteAid's online store is pretty good for purchasing d...

jenni, I had the same problem for the first few months I had my braces, and as it turns out the wire was not trimmed short enough. I used wax on the ends and at the ortho's office the assistant simply trimmed the wire and made sure the buccal tube was tight enough.

mstikl, I have Clarity braces and haven't experienced any problems with them staining. Ligatures will naturally stain, and like some have said may give your teeth a yellowish appearance. Another possibility is that it's left over glue.
