Re: Lost the hole in my expander... Help :(

I turned my expander from back to front as well. I've never come across anyone else on this board who did it that way so...pleased to meet you  The most likely explanation for losing the hole is that you didn't fully complete the previous turn. You should be able to find the original hole to co...

Re: SARPE Surgery

peckabel, don't worry. I assume you're sure you're turning the key correctly? The gap between your teeth is no indication at all of how much your palate has expanded. You could even find your teeth moving back together again. They wander all over the place at this stage :) . WaterBoy that nosebleed ...

Re: Lower jaw only or double jaw?

Remember when you hold your lower jaw forward yourself you can only get a rough approximation of the finished result. The surgeon will be slicing into the bone, so he can slide and tip things around much more than you can. My back teeth also didn't really touch properly pre-surgery. My surgery (lowe...

Re: De-braced today!

Thanks, bullfighter. Yes, flossing is a dream. I still have to thread under the permanent retainer but that's nowhere near as fiddly as working round brackets and especially trying to get between molar bands (of which I had 8!!).

Re: De-braced today!

Thank you, peoples :D Unbraced teeth felt very strange at first -- sort of slimy! But I'm getting used to it and the retainers aren't so bad. I'm supposed to wear them at least 16 hours out of 24 which is quite manageable. There's a fixed retainer behind the bottom few front teeth as well. I think o...

Re: De-braced today!

Thank you for the congrats, Raquel and chicago. This naked tooth experience is definitely a weird feeling! And the retainers are... liveable-with  .

Re: Think I made a Mistake...

Hi there, hithere! Forgive me if I’m misreading you, but it sounds to me like your dilemma is more between the different orthos than the type of bracket. The one offering metal is cheaper but you’re bothered by the level of service and don’t sound too confident in the ortho’s expertise. The one offe...

Updating as promised (having been de-braced today  ).

As with everything else, no difference whatever. The ceramic brackets popped off just as easily as the metal ones.

De-braced today!

Well, the day has finally arrived. The brackets are off.

Let the joys of retainers begin :D

Re: metal v ceramic

There have been people who've posted on here that their surgeons wanted them to have all metal. Seems to be a surgeon's preference thing. I have a mixture of ceramic and metal and they all held through surgery and the subsequent elastics etc just fine. FWIW I've noticed no difference whatsoever betw...

Re: November Buddies

... have they told you how long you'll need the retainers for? Is everyone still wearing their elastics? Also do you still get a bit 'uncomfortable' around where they cut the bone? I'm assuming the retainers are for life, though I've not been told that specifically yet. I gather you gradually wean ...

Re: Has swelling ever RETURNED? Any ideas why it happens?

Well done for getting it sorted so quickly. I also got an infection in the cheek, after my BSSO. A poky wire dug a hole in the inside of my cheek while I was still numb from surgery so I didn't feel it, and the infection started there. The swelling increased on that side of my face and my temperatur...

Re: November Buddies

Hey, Dani, I get de-braced next month as well :jump:. And yes, now you mention it I do seem to "catch" my braces a bit more than I used to. Ah well, not much longer and it'll be the retainers to battle with instead

Re: Found a Zip N Squeeze alternative!!

You'd be surprised how soon you can drink from a cup and/or use a teaspoon. I'm really not convinced expensive specialist gear is necessary. Even when tightly banded immediately after surgery I managed OK with a toddler-type sipper cup (without a valve) and soon progressed to a normal drinking glass...
