Ah, thank you for all the answers!

I was given two sets of retainers (obviously my dentist has experience with people losing/breaking a set!) so it would be easy for me to have a set soaking while wearing the other. Still, they don't take a lot of cleaning, now that I've had some practise :)

Braces came off today!

So it's been 21 months, 1 week and 4 days for me but I've finally gotten there! My teeth look great! I have a gap that wouldn't close on the lower left but that's no big deal. It's far enough back that most people won't notice it. I'm going to have to take some photos! I've been given Essix retainer...

I think it could be fun - certainly one for the scrapbook album! Will they do your hair before the photoshoot is what I'm wondering! My hair would rival Medusa's :p Why is it a hotmail account instead of an official work account that we have to email? Nowadays you have to think about the legitimacy ...

The only things I avoid are popcorn, apples, raw carrots, nuts and toffee. I enjoy chocolate often! I only drink fizzy drinks through a straw now too. I've had my braces for a little while now but I still can't 'bite' into things - so I can eat a burger but I have to chop it up with a knife and fork...

I'm in the UK - my dentist recommended an orthodontist to me. I've got upper ceramics and metal lowers. Treatment is estimated at 2yrs, followed by 1yr in retainers. My consultation was £50. Treatment was about £2400 up front or £2600 paid in three instalments of about £800. There was a monthly ...

I went back to work the next day and managed fine with just painkillers, but I couldn't enunciate for toffee. I'd say take a day off to learn to speak again!

Not really sure what's in my mouth. I know the bottom wire is a titanium/nickel alloy, which I think is very cool. The top is stainless steel.

Oh, and I have this springy thing to keep two of my teeth apart. I was gonna post photos at some point.

On kids, no. On adults, yes. I'm a UK'er and, it has already been mentioned, kids get free dental treatment over here. Therefore any kid can have braces, rich or poor. Adults, on the other hand, have to go to a Private Practise if they want braces (except in really really bad circumstances) and they...

3 weeks in

Okay, so I've had braces for three weeks now. Here's an update of how I'm doing: 1. Weight. Have neither lost or gained any weight. Presumably, being unable to drink fizzy drinks and eat butter popcorn is being balanced by a greater intake of custard and ice cream :p 2. Worst moment so far: last wee...

To be perfectly honest I just went along with what the dentist advised. While I would have gone for full metals if necessary I am quite happy with the ceramics. Today at work some people didn't even notice I had braces at all!

I'm not feeling confident enough to tackle any chewing just yet. I can't get my back teeth anywhere near each other when I close my mouth because my top teeth it the bottom brackets first. *f* Its very annoying. So today I'm chickening out and I'm going to pick up a slimfast from Tesco :) I must loo...
