Ah, thank you for all the answers!

I was given two sets of retainers (obviously my dentist has experience with people losing/breaking a set!) so it would be easy for me to have a set soaking while wearing the other. Still, they don't take a lot of cleaning, now that I've had some practise

To be perfectly honest I just went along with what the dentist advised. While I would have gone for full metals if necessary I am quite happy with the ceramics. Today at work some people didn't even notice I had braces at all!
