chillin - I got my elastics on the very day I was braced. I think it's something that depends on your ortho and his own method of treatment.

When and if you get elastics will be up to your ortho. I got my elastics the same day I was braced, but some orthos prefer to wait. I'm sure there is no right or wrong way...just the preference of your ortho. Bands are used to help in bite correction. The ortho will assess whether or not you need th...

Hey, discomom. I know those white patches are a symptom of strep, but I looked it up thinking I may have it and I didn't have a lot of the classic signs of strep, like a yellow discoloration of the back of the mouth or a white coating in the mouth. Those lesions were all I had...plus the swelling, o...

That's awesome, Rainy....strange and awesome. So, is there some way that you can change the locks on a car or is that super expensive? It's weird that they can be inconsiderate enough to break into your house and leave with your cars, but considerate enough to not damage the cars and even lock them ...

Congratulations on all the positive changes you've got going on....braces, a wedding, weight loss! It's amazing how taking the plunge to correct one thing will give the confidence to correct one more. I'm glad that the experience has brought you closer to your fiance. I, too, have found that I've le...

Thanks for the reminder on the salt water...I've been using a throat spray, but the soothing effects of that only last a few minutes :( . I'll try a saltwater gargle before dinner and maybe that'll make it more tolerable to swallow.

I think my disappointment was that everyone assured me that the spacers were the worst of it....and I reallllly didn't feel that way. haha It wasn't in the worst pain of my life (I've been through pregnancy and childbirth, afterall...which wasn't the worst pain, either...a kidney infection while I w...

Karen, I thought it was the flu, too, or maybe allergies (you know, the regular kind). As I had mentioned, my little boy was sick last week, which I chalked up to teething. But then I thought maybe he had a bug that he passed onto me. That's probably why it took me so long to put two and two togethe...

Maybe you should take a more direct approach with your orthodontist and tell him that you're really unhappy with your results so far. Maybe he was making a joke (since y'all seem to have a jovial relationship) or maybe your teeth are a unique case. I know several people on here have had to be braced...

OMG, that's horrible about your house and cars!! I hope you find out who did that and they are prosecuted thoroughly! That's certainly something you don't want to have to deal with right now. But I'm glad you've gotten over your "public brushing/flossing" shyness. I've become accustomed to...

PS...I already knew I have a latex allergy...I just didn't think I was that sensitive to it. I used to work in a veterinary hospital and that's where I learned that I had the allergy. Figuring that out made a huge difference at home, too  .

Yeah, I always doublecheck that they've got blue gloves on at the ortho...otherwise, they're not latex free. I don't know why dr's offices don't make it a point to alert everybody to a patient's latex allergy on his or her file. I always have to remind and re-remind every doctor, nurse, DA, or whoev...

DOH! Elastics drama

So, about a week ago, I developed a sore throat. That sore throat turned into a massively swollen throat. I told me husband that it was like I had an elephant in my throat. Soon after that, I got this headache that wouldn't go away despite my best efforts. After a couple days of the swollen throat, ...

Well, I say, it's hardly the worst problem in the world to have. I'm 26 years old (27 next month) and I've got a young son (he'll be 3 next month) and I've had people mistake me for his babysitter and even give me evil glares...I'm assuming because *they're* assuming I'm a young teen mom. And all th...

Do you have a regular dentist? I would start there and see who he or she recommends. Also, I'm 100% unfamiliar with the UK system, however I have seen where adults here on this site have received help NHS, so I would delve a little deeper into that. Your dentist should be able to clear that up. If y...
