Re: Has anyone lost the ability to whistle?
I noticed the first day I had braces that I couldn't whistle, which was a problem because I have dogs and I love to whistle a tune most of the time. I had to sit down and practice pulling my lips over my braces to do it, but I was able to do it just fine after a couple days of practice! Keep trying,...

Re: Did you have a deep bite corrected?
My ortho didn't use any special devices to treat my deep bite. My deep bite was pretty severe so I had to wait about two months before I could get my lower braces on, and even when I did I had to have HUGE molar buildups for about four months. My ortho started with leveling and aligning and then sta...

Re: what are your RETAINER wear instructions
Wow, my ortho sent me straight to nighttime wear only, not even 12 hours, just "sleeping hours" which is about 7-9 hours a night for me. I notice slight shifting throughout the day (mostly my central incisors recess back so I can feel my lower teeth touching my upper bonded retainer) but t...

Re: Retainers
If he thinks it'll be sufficient, go with the removable. I have a bonded retainer and it's impossible to adequately clean behind because I can't see it at all (it's on my top row).

Re: Tooth Sensetivity
One of my premolars and canines became super sensitive about 3 days before I got my braces off. Needless to say, taking the bracket off those teeth hurt like hell! But I've been brushing with Sensodyne since and the sensitivity has all but gone away. That's what I'd recommend. I think some pain and ...

Re: Length of treatment quoted and actual treatment length
I was quoted 12 months and spent 13 months in braces. I expected it to be closer to 16 or 18 in reality, so I was quite pleased!

Re: How are people coping with permanent retainers?
I have a bonded retainer on the top between my two central incisors. It's a little annoying since sometimes it hits my lower teeth when I relax my jaw just right, and I haven't figured out how to floss between it, but I can say that the tonguing/messing with it does get better (I've had it for about...

It seems like people who wear the Hawley retainer get pretty good at talking with practice. This long weekend seems like the perfect time to just try to get used to the Hawley and rely on that instead. I have an Essix, and it's awkward because I can't bite, but they bent the edges in such a way that...

Another whitening thread...
I saw that there were several threads recommending Crest white strips, so I bought some today after being debraced (my poor teeth, lol)! I used them for a half hour like instructed and noticed that when I took them off that I had kind of a splotchy white patch on my front teeth. Is this normal? Will...

littleviolet, don't feel embarrassed. I'm 24 and haven't dated much or kissed anyone either! I just find most guys in my area to be really lame/boring, haha. Save it for somebody who is important to you! I am super busy with school so I don't get out much, but the guy I am getting to know now doesn'...

I have been wondering that too. I have one tooth that is slightly tilted inward, but you can't tell just looking at it because it's one of my premolars (I can just tell because of running my tongue over the back of my teeth). I also have a TEENY TINY space between two bottom teeth. I am wondering if...

I had my wisdoms (3, all of them impacted) before braces, and it was not too bad. The surgery itself was easy--went there, they put me out, woke up and no more wisdoms! The recovery took a couple days, but the pain wasn't really all that bad. You have to be careful what you chew, but mostly you just...
