Re: who were your TMJ dentists?

Go to Dr. Gunson in Santa Barbara, CA I would but I doubt Dr Gunson would be able to pinpoint what's wrong. I went to see Dr Schendel and that didn't go anywhere. I think they just fix what's blatantly wrong with the bone and teeth such as 5mm overbite or underbite. My ENT suspects it's the condyle...

Re: who were your TMJ dentists?

May I ask what your concerns are? Hi RMF7825, I have intense stiffness and pain from the base of my skull to shoulder as well as bruxism which occurred spontaneously during orthodontia years ago when I felt something go out of kilter around my maxilla/throat/condyle area. I'm not sure what's going ...

who were your TMJ dentists?

Would you recommend them?
This is targeted more towards the Los Angelinos (and neighboring counties) with TMJ since I'm looking for a real experienced complex TMJ specialist whose focus is primarily the jaws.

Also, does anyone know what kind of TMJ specialists are trained in reading MRI's as well?

My "pain" notes and journal

iBorg (Mike), a wonderful and inspirational member of the AW community, suggested that I start a journal so I thought why not. Here I am, typos, grammatical errors and all. You'll have to excuse me on that as I'm prone to such mishaps. My first entry is going to be a bit abrupt as my journey has not...

Re: Dr Schendel

Dr Schendel also has an office in Pacific Palisades. I'm glad I won't have to worry about driving to and from the Bay Area. That issue was worrying me.

Re: Is Dental Insurance worth it?

btw, there is no waiting period for the DeltaCare USA plan. It's a prepaid HMO type plan for Individuals and you get to use it the day coverage begins. It's really affordable, covers adult orthodontia, routine and preventive procedures are very low cost if not free... but I hear it's difficult to fi...

Re: Is Dental Insurance worth it?

Thanks for the advice. I believe you and Dr Tam are right. Since x-rays and consults for medically necessary procedures (ct, panoramic) are already covered under medical, I doubt I would benefit from DHMO. Plus, if I'm correct, the good dentists work with their patients providing discounts and such.

Re: Dr Schendel

Yes, Dr Stephen Schendel. He has an office in Palo Alto, CA and is an In Network physician. The PROS are that he has a team already established of orthos and other craniofacial related dr's working within the building. Also, his practice is limited to the craniofacial region. The CON is that I haven...

Re: Want surgery vs Need surgery?

Currently I need other major surgeries all in the craniofacial region which seems to be aggravating the pre-existing facial and neurological pain but now also thoracic spine pain, so I'll need to consult with a maxillofacial surgeon anyway. I doubt I can even be splinted until this is treated first ...

Re: Checking bite alignment - question please explain

He might be checking for something called "functional jaw shift". Your jaw has to be very relaxed and the only way to achieve this is to let your head up. Now, slowly bring the jaw up until the very 1st spot touches. Do it several times very slowly and feel that spot. Now, as soon as the ...

Re: Surgeries with Arnett/Gunson Anyone?

If I may ask, how all of you are affording such costly procedures+travel and consult fees? These doctors don't even have payment plans unfortunately.
