So my question is, should I go through with braces, despite my family's objections? ABSOLUTELY YES!!! Do it NOW and you'll avoid a world of dental problems in your 30s and 40s. I was 44 when I got my braces. My sister and I were told by my mom that our teeth were not "that bad" and both o...

A gel toothpaste (my ortho said the solid white kind is too abrasive) and sometimes Efferdent and retainer brite. I also bought a sonic cleaner.

The one thing my ortho was ADAMENT that I NOT use is LISTERINE. Apparently it will "eat" the retainer.

First, Trident White gum...my ortho had a big jar of the stuff so I grabbed a handful. When I got home, I made POPCORN!!! A few weeks later I had corn on the cob and bar-b-q ribs. Since then (June), I really haven't had much that I didn't with the braces on. I still cute things into bite sized piece...

Having sued a former dentist myself in the past, I personally would not waste your time contacting the ADA or the Board of Dental Examiners. I learned the hard way that they PROTECT THEIR OWN and could give a rat's booty about the consumer. There is typically a statute of limitations on dental work ...

I just had a new Essix made this week. My first one cracked after less than 5 months. The woman at my ortho's office who made the Essix told me that they typically last about 6 months before they crack and they DO loosen up over time. She did mention that mine cracked sooner than typical and they ga...

I have to say that it is an odd feeling being the ortho's office sans braces! I have to go back in December for another retainer/teeth check. I think it continues for 2 years after de-banding.

All of the other adults in the waiting area were there with their kids. One woman asked me if I was waiting for my kid LOL  Then I gave her the play by play of my braces. She in turn told me that she had braces 20 years ago and had a bonded retainer and that her 3 kids and husband were all now ...

Hey Newmetal! Glad your first adjustment went well. I had a spring coil on my lower front teeth for well over 6 months. It was by far the worst part of my treatment because the coil cut into my lower lip (I was the Queen of Wax! ). The coils are VERY effective at creating a space for a tooth c...

Meryaten, The latte was a real treat! I sort of gave up coffee and tea after I had my teeth whitened in June. My appt was at 8 am and I didn't sleep well because my lower jaw was sore from 3 huge novacaine injections yesterday (I think my dentist is a bit overkill on novacaine!). I was tickled to ge...

I love my Ortho's Office!!!

I was debanded at the end of May and got my upper Essix and lower Hawley in early June. Last month, my Essix cracked in the front. Since I was going to have a crown and filling replaced on my upper teeth about a week after the retainer cracked, my ortho's office said it would be ok to wear the "...

And now a huge crack, right down the middle of the front teeth. Wow, mine cracked in the front too! I called my ortho and they said that since I am going to need a new one after my new crown (I get that Tuesday), no rush to get a new one made. I am wearing the "temp retainer" the ortho ma...

Simplywired, the nightsplint is a thicker version of the essix retainer, from the way my ortho described it. I have no idea why it is so expensive, but he told me to get all of my upper dental work completed before he takes molds and orders it because of the price. The essix I wear now it ultra thin...

definitely get a sample and try it BEFORE you buy it. I bought some when I was first braced and all I can say is YUCK! The taste was horrid. It didn't help my canker sores either. :(
