The braces are coming off!!!

I've just spoken to my orthodontist..and he's going to take the braces off at my next appointment! I still have some gaps to close, but apparently this can be done in clear aligners. I'm so excited. It's almost exactly two months since my surgery. I can't believe it's happening so soon! Sorry, just ...

Hi Brandy, I was waiting for someone else to jump in on this, but as you haven't had a response, I'll put my ten cents worth in. I had a retainer on my last set of braces when I was a teenager and I can completely identify with the discomfort you describe. I remember the feeling of having to put it ...

Yes, it is fairly normal. I had one side of my lower jaw advanced 8mm and the other 5mm. I was told that they don't advance it more than about 10mm, so I'd be intrigued to know how 18mm is possible. Does it require a bone graft from elswhere?

Hi there, you and I had our surgery around the same time, and I can definitely identify with those feelings of disappointment (I too am having loads of compliments about how unswollen I look). However, you will not know what you look like until the swelling in the lower jaw goes down. You may not fe...

Hi all, Thanks for your kind comments re the blog. I'm a recent convert to Blogging, so it feels good to get some praise! 4beauty - the swallowing blood business is quite common, I think. I believe that they do put a swab in the back of the throat to try to ensure it doesn't go down, but obviously t...

Hi Phil, So sorry to belatedly giving you best wishes for the second time around. Your delayed union problem REALLY sucks. I questioned my OS about it on Wednesday and he said that he'd never seen one, despite doing an average of three osteotomies a week. Such bad luck but you seem to be bearing it ...

Hi Meryaten, Thanks for your interest. The surgery went really well, apparently, and only took two hours for both upper and lower. I had round-the-clock nursing for the first twelve hours which I really appreciated, although I was amazed that no ice packs have been used....just anti-inflammatories I...

I'm out of hospital this evening. Thanks so much to all of you for your words of encouragement. I'm planning to blog the whole experience over the next few days (I now appreciate how amazing you were Brandy to Blog from your hospital bed - wow!!). But the long and short of it is that the surgery was...

5.30 am on the morning of Surgery

I leave for the Hospital in an hour. I'm feeling remarkably ready for the operation and just want to get on with it, although I'm not looking forward to the initial period after it and am prepared for a pretty rough first 48 hours. A big thank you to those of you who have shared so much information ...

I'm with Meryaten on this. Having had SARPE myself, you really want to be able to enjoy the Christmas festivities without having to worry about your bite. SARPE is very straight forward and nothing to be concerned about, but it does leave your top palate feeling a bit vulnerable and numb. The pleasu...

I had my pre-op appointment today and my experience was very similar to NCRN's (only not quite as thorough). I had impressions and a wax mould done, measurements taken - including one which used an instrument that looked like a head vice from a scene of medieval torture. I was then sent off to have ...

Hi honeyg, Yes, I am having my work done privately - but then I work for one of the big private health insurers, which is really fortunate as its going to cost a packet. I'm having my treatment at the McIndoe Centre in East Grinstead. I had my SARPE done there last year and it was a very good experi...

Thanks both for your interest! It's a big moment for me after over a year in braces. Sweetpea, my lower jaw is retrognathic so both sides are too short, but one side got the idea better than the other! I had no idea I was so assymetrical until I saw the orthodontist. It'll be good to stay in touch t...
