If you truly are brushing for 30 min, I would suspect you may be developing some OCD tendencies. Three to four minutes is plenty of time to do an excellent job.

I never spoke normally for the whole 5 months I had it. However, I do think it sounded slightly worse to me than those on the listening end of things. I'm surprised you didn't hear my screams of joy back in September when I had it removed! LOL Now THAT is a day to remember.

Good luck.

Mix equal parts of cherry maalox liquid and liquid benadryl and swish and spit. This will coat and soothe your mouth sores.

I'm 45, second time around--just passed my 1 year mark with braces. Definitely take care of the issue now as your opinion of your smile likely won't change and the price of ortho only goes up up UP! Soon enough your kids will need them, too! LOL

Y, don't get "cavities" filled until you know they ARE cavities. I went to a dentist who told me I needed FIFTEEN fillings. Went to another who said I needed NONE. Some dentists are "fill crazy" and want to drill and fill any slight imperfection, even where there is no decay. SEC...

There's really nothing that should be "avoided" altogether if you're careful. In fact, my ortho said as much--those "rules" are mainly for the teens, who are, as a whole, less careful than the adult patients. If you can eat something without pain--go for it.

Oh dear...permanent would be intolerable. Five months was bad enough (but I have other muscular/health issues as well, which complicated matters.)

I found that sometimes prefacing conversations (with a new person) with "I have an appliance in the roof of my mouth for a while as part of my braces, so I may sound funny (drunk, impaired, whatever.)" really helped. I always did that when I had to do phone calls. I own an online business,...

I had a bite plate (nonremovable) for 5 months. It was hideous, because in addition, I have a neuromuscular disease which already makes speaking/chewing/swallowing difficult. I NEVER got used to it and was so HAPPY when he finally cut it out of my mouth. I think you should stick it out. It does its ...
