It's been ages since my last post but......

I just wanted to say that I was de-banded yesterday and had a wonderful if brief 24 hours of freedom before collecting my upper and lower Hawley retainers which feel extremely bulky and make me lisp like mad (If you have watched the Python's Life of Brian you will know what I mean). I actually prefe...

Thank you for the responses so far and whilst I am looking forward to their removal, I have to say that the process of getting and wearing braces has made me far more confident about myself that in some ways I will be sorry to see them go. My braces wearing time has flown by and I can't think of a t...

De-banding day - July 14 !!

First of all, here's to European Champions Title No 3 for Man United and let's hope there's more of them to come. I found out yesterday that on all being well that my braces will come off on July 14 and the retainers will go on the following day. Not sure what else to say other than I can't believe ...

Daft Question time

Apologies for what may be a daft question and one that perhaps I should know the answer to as I've just celebrated 12 months with braces but should the end result of our treatment be symmetrical teeth ? I've still got six months or so to go but I have another ortho appointment on Wednesday and have ...

I had the middle tooth removed from my lower arch on 13 July last year and within 6 months the gap had gone completely.

Beth

To be honest I have no idea what brand they are and I think they are ligating brackets.

I've got pics of them in my "story so far" for which the link is below but I've never thought to ask the ortho for the brand name

Cheers

I have ceramic brackets on both my upper and lower arches and I couldn't be happier. My ortho never mentioned any difference in treatment time between the two and given the relatively small difference in price between the two I chose the ceramics. I'm not self-conscious about my braces and I am smil...

Pearls

All the best for brace day and I am sure everything will be fine.

I remember thinking that my lip stuck out a mile and the brackets must be so noticeable but it wasn't really that bad at all and you will be amazed how quick you get used to them

Good luck

Beth Thanks for the response and I've no idea what brand my ceramic brackets are to be honest. Thanks too for attaching those links and I will read the information posted on the websites. It may be that Kathryn does have a bad bite and it would certainly be interesting to see her reaction if the ort...

My wife's clicky jaw

My wife, Kathryn has an extremely clicky jaw and on the odd occasion it has been known to stick and lock a little (is that a problem I hear you ask ?) I have mentioned this to my ortho and he is happy to chat about the potential causes and possible treatments and Kathryn will be seeing him shortly t...

Long time no update - April 2008 progress report

My last progress report was posted way back in September 2007 and I thought I had better get my act together and post an update. It's been an interesting few months since my last update; my original ortho sold the practice and between October 2007 and January 2008 I had the grand total of zero appoi...

I had no problems with the IPR which my ortho did on top and bottom arches. It felt uncomfortable but there was no real pain. If you trust the ortho then try to relax as they will have your best interests at heart

All the best

For what it's worth, I was another who was included in the Guardian article and I think all of the pics looked pretty good and the article itself was pretty well balanced.

Pearlie I got square/rectangular Ni-Ti wires on the top and bottom today and they do appear thicker than the previous circular ones. As usual Meryaten is quite right - my ortho told me that circular wires are to get the teeth on the same "plane" whilst square ones are to sort out the angle...

Elpi Another fellow Brit here and just wanted to wish you all the best with your orthodontic treatment. I had overcrowded and crooked teeth and expected to lose the wisdom teeth but as they looked strong and healthy the ortho proposed something different. So I've only had one tooth extracted (lower ...
