Wow, Kaycee, I wish you the very best; did your surgeon explain what went wrong? I'm very curious to know.

Hi Dave,
it's great to hear that you're happy with the surgery, and the fact that you're coming back here to post about it is a sure sign that it must have been life-changing for you. :D

I didn't have a splint, just bands, but I couldn't breathe anyway. For me that was the WORST part of it all, sitting in my hospital bed at night desperately trying to clear my nose so that enough oxygen could come in! Horrid. For about two days and two nights - it does get better. :? http://www.chin...

Oh, Dan , that made me wince. Ouch.

I wasn't 'wired shut', I only had bands (Lefot 1 + BSSO) and that was plenty.

That's what my OS told me, yes. It doesn't mean complete numbness though, it could be partial. I don't have anything to back it up, just what he told me; we were discussing my mother and the fact that she's still quite numb after 2 years; he asked how old she was when the surgery was performed - 57 ...

My OS said that the risk of permanent numbness is in proportion to your age; roughly, ig you're 40, there's a 40% chance of permanent or long term numbness, etc. So the younger you are, the better. I'm 9 weeks post op and I'm tingly; but I'm planning some acupuncture to help regain some feeling! htt...

Three recent surgery patients are doing this :

Hey, I was going insane with worry pre-surgery, and driving everyone crazy too. On the first day post surgery I had to calm down, I was so high on drugs anyway. And for the next three weeks, despite teh discomfort, I was incredibly calm, just focused on the little things. The 'before' is bad, I feel...

Oh my. I'm 9 weeks post surgery (Lefort 1 + BSSO) and I'm only starting to wonder if I'd be able to KISS someone!

I feel like a slow developing teenager

People have answered better than I could, so i'll add just one more thing: at first I didn't understand why I needed upper jaw surgery when I thought there was simply something wrong with my chin - just like you, from what I understand. But you'll see, it'll work out! :-)

3 weeks post op is nothing; I still looked like something the cat'd dragged in at that point. It took me a good 7 weeks before I thought I look human again.

You'll be fine for freshers' week!
