I asked my dentist about bonding to fill in the gaps in my front teeth, but he went on to explain what veneers could do for me instead... but I didn't for one second consider that! Instead, I asked what he thought about me getting braces and he even agreed that my teeth were too nice to mess with, t...

I had some specs of glue for some time after getting braces off, and did feel some rough spots here and there. Didn't really feel slimy, my mouth just felt empty! A really diligent and hard working dental hygienist eventually got all the glue off

The ortho could step up the ante by adding a posted wire and tie backs. I had some stubborn spaces on bottom after having power chains for several months. The tie backs closed up the remaining gaps over night , they are like power chains on steroids and do not mess around! OWW! ;) edit: Here is a pi...

Weeelllllp, just a quick update to tie up my treatment story: Had my first retainer check yesterday and got the a-ok to just wear it at night from here on out (the ortho knows that i've been doing this for awhile anyway, but now it's official). Going to go for one more check up in 6 mo to see how I'...

If you poke around in the Naked Tooth forum you'll find lots of info on the different types of retainers, and the pros and cons of each. In the end I just went with what my ortho provided, an essix-type retainer which is similar to an Invisalign tray.

I got powerchains at my first adjustment and had them throughout most of my treatment, they closed up my gaps rather quickly! Go powerchains!

My upper essix felt too bulky until I carefully sanded away some extra material with an emery board. There was too much plastic sticking out and covering the roof of my mouth, which made it difficult to talk, and the inside back edges were murder on my tongue. A little sanding and no more problems a...

Same - I didn't have anything more exciting than power chains and a posted wire once. The ortho thought I might need elastics at one point but ended up not having to do them after all.

Yeah, I didn't let myself go to night-only until I didn't feel any tightness anymore when I put them in. Maybe try wearing them just a little longer in the evening before bed instead of just while sleeping?

Even though I don't mind my essix at all and find it easy and comfortable to wear (haven't had any of the visible food problems, that's why you at least swish after eating? and they're pretty durable as long as you take care of them) - if I had the choice I would get a hawley simply because it will ...

Can't add much more other than I think my teeth always feel weird after taking my retainer out, might be something else to get used to. I've been following my ortho's instructions to rinse with mouthwash and brush it gently, the effervescent tabs do wonders on any retainer odors and clean them up li...

I swish with mouthwash with them in in the morning, take them out and give them a quick scrub with a toothbrush and rinse, leaving them to dry in the case. At least once a week I soak them in effervescent denture cleaner and they come out sparkling and fresh :D The abrasiveness of the paste can not ...

Hola! OrthoCAD patient here. It doesn't make me an expert on such things, but I can give you my experience: My ortho didn't give me the choice, he uses OrthoCAD on all his patients and has been doing so since it became available I believe. Any system like this must be used by a skilled orthodontist....

I didn't have an expander, but my essix retainers weren't very hard to get used to. See this thread for advice I gave there:

I now find my essix retainers to be super comfortable and easy to speak in.
