Ok, to clear this up... I went in today. They took off the powerchain they had running across all my teeth (upper and lower). For the top wire, they cut the ends of the wire off. So the wire now goes across my 4 front teeth only. At the end of the wire they still have the little hook for elastics. N...

i was told straight up by my ortho in the first consultation that he would only be able to take me 95% of the way for a perfect hollywood smile. of course i asked why? he said that because my jaw is mis-aligned, nothing short of jaw surgery would get it perfect. i told him no way i was having (or co...

your paying big money for those braces and the ortho's services. why would it be rude to ask questions? ask, ask, ask! i never understand why people on this forum and people iwth braces in general think it's rude to ask questions? to me, i equate this to not asking a doctor when a cast can come off....

I don't get it. I've never understand why everyone around here seems to have problems asking their ortho questions. Do you let doctors just operate on you without asking questions? Do you let them perform tests on you without asking questions? If I want to know about something, I ask my ortho! Somet...

Swallowed one of mine too :D

I didn't even know it until the following day but I broke off while eating a big tri-tip steak sandwich.

Also swallowed a few elastics and some wax as well. Wax didn't taste all that great. Needed some salt :D

I remember my ortho in the beginning. He mentioned that he would try bonding the brackets in back (instead of banding) and 'see how those do' and go from there. I inquired further and he said sometimes it can be frustrating because the bond can break and the brackets fall if. *if* that was to happen...

I had one bracket come off on my rear tooth. I accidentally swallowed the bracket during lunch. I didn't realize it until the following day. No biggie. I just called on Monday and they let me pop in for 10 minutes for a re-glue. But...I had a bracket removed by the Ortho when he noticed the 'inkling...

Getting braces removed!

I'm finally getting my braces off, but I have a question about the removal process. I go in on Nov 4th and they will 'section' my braces. They made it sound like they cut the wire in sections. Doesn't anyone know why they do this? I can only think that perhaps it is to ease the tension off the teeth...

I just got heavier elastics. The really thick ones. They definitely exert more force than the 'medium' ones do. When I had mediums, I tried doubling them up. But I realized that wasn't good. Extra force at the wrong time can move teeth too fast and put unwanted additional pressure on your teeth. Bra...

Hello :) I've learned to ask lots and lots of questions often! After the first few appointments, he started explaining everything to me! Now I don't even have to ask. And if I leave and forgot to ask him a question, I get on the cell phone and ask...ok, what is that lower left powerchain supposed to...

I don't have molar bands. In fact, I specifically asked that do everything possible to limit my uncomfortableness while having braces. So...he said, 'ok we're gonna try to use just bonded brackets and see if those stay on'. In 18 months with braces, I've only broke off (and swallowed!) one bracket.....
