I haven't had any negative reactions so far. The people who knew I was getting them have been really excited for me. People who didn't know I was getting them have noticed that I'm talking funny (I have tongue reminders that are giving me a nathty lithp), so in the middle of a conversation some have...

Hi, and good luck with your bracing tomorrow! I got my tops put on last Thursday, and they include a spring between my right front tooth and right canine, because the one in between needs more room to come forward. The biggest things I've noticed about the spring so far: 1) It's really the only thin...

Sweetie, how did it go? I hope it went as smoothly as I think mine did yesterday! I had stocked up on yogurt and protein shakes, but I'm already getting more adventurous with eating and tackled a mac-n-cheese microwave meal for lunch. Aside from the 45 minutes it took me to eat it, and the 10-minute...

KK is exactly right, Sweetie. Apparently, I'm a "tongue thruster," and my tongue needs to be retrained to not push against my teeth when I swallow. I'm already doing much better with the swallowing part, but unfortunately the little spikes are still there when I'm doing things where my ton...

Wow, it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. The worst part was that the assistant slightly misplaced the bracket on my back molar, so she had to break it off, grind off the glue and replace it. But I kind of walked out of there like, "Okay, that's it?" I do look, well, not so at...

30 minutes until my appointment to get my top braces on. I just took a little pill - let's see ... propantheline - that's supposed to dry out my mouth. I'm starting to get a little freaked out ...

This is great, because people have been giving me ideas. Last night I decided I wanted a big burger thanks to the folks who talked about missing being able to bite into one. And for tonight, I think I've decided on ribs. A coworker recommended Famous Dave's Barbecue because I don't feel like cooking...

Hey, Ives, a fellow Utahn! I'm up in Ogden.

Amy, ribs is one of the things I'm considering. But I only like them how I cook them, so I'd have to fire up the grill!

Last supper :)

My brace-day is Thursday. Wednesday is Valentine's Day. My husband has asked me what I want for my "last supper" without braces for 26 months. I have several ideas, but I thought it would be a fun question to put out to the group: What was your "last supper" pre-braces? Or, if yo...

Day after braces - hockey?

Hi all! I have a question: I get my top braces on next Thursday. That Friday is the first day of a three-day hockey tournament where I'll probably be scheduled to play 3-4 games. My question is: Am I nuts to think I can play hockey so soon after getting braced? One girl on my team told me she spent ...

Hi Ives! I too talked with my ortho about Invisalign and got basically the same message -- he could probably fix some things, but not all the problems with my bite (that I never even knew I had). Since they quoted a similar price and time frame for both, I decided to go with the braces. I get my top...

Congratulations on getting up the courage to do this! I'm in pretty much the same boat -- 35 and getting my top braces on a week from today. Like you, I'm doing ceramic tops/metal bottoms. I'm both excited and really nervous at the same time. Good luck!
