10 weeks post op today!! Wow how time flies when having fun! Saw OS team last week and had xrays...again. Good news no relapse. Open bite on right side is closing slowly. They are very pleased with their handy work. I go back next in January. Saw ortho today. Okay, that was not fun. I thought that I...

Kaycee, My facial exercises are: pucker up, relax, pucker up, relax. It's a charming picture. Basically anything/way that I can stretch my lips. My top lip functions normally but my bottom one is being a bit subborn. My bottom doesn't move quite right when I speak either. They say it will come on it...

Kaycee, funny you shoud mention that. I saw my OS yesterday and mentioned to him that although my nose doesn't hurt per se, it runs all the time now. And if I have to scratch because of all of the pins and needles, then yeah it hurts. He said to give it time. The xrays taken yesterday show everythin...

Thanks everyone! :-#) I have to agree that the bite is great, in front at least. The ortho now has to work on closing some issues in the back (slight open bite on right side at back- they knew this would happen). Now she also has to work on getting my fronts to line up nicely. This should be interes...

Kaycee, I was pretty much the same as you prior to surgery. I actually had my lower lip sticthed up a couple of times because the split was so bad. I wasn't a mouth breather during the day, although at night I think I was. Because of the angle of my lips - my bottom so much further out and turned ou...

Yeah I agree that the $3000 for the surgery really isn't bad. I was just curious as to why american insurance companies cover this type of surgery and canadian ones don't. I'm wondering if it's because OHIP pays such a large part. Apparently the bill for the hospital stay would have been close to $5...

Don't fret, my family already thinks I'm totally gaga. You should see the picture they have in mind of what I'm going to be like when I'm in my 80's! :jokerlaugh: Thathrill- I know what you mean about the painful elastics. I have to wear 2 on my right side and although the elastics themselves don't ...

I agree with Meryaten's last post. By the way...the more flattish appearance midface does not go away for all of us. In fact mine is worse. They placed some bone grafts around the sides of my nose close to the cheek area but I still look flattish. They told me prior to surgery that without the graft...

I live in Toronto. Ohip only covered the actual hospital fees. My insurance covered the semi-private room and some of the anestia(sp) costs. That's it. I am out of pocket $3grand for the surgery and then add in another grand for xrays, and of course the braces themselves-$7,500. We are with Empire L...

Andante-thanks for the reply. Recovery has been very long indeed. Or at least felt that way. You're right about the sleeping though. You simply can't concentrate that well when operating on limited amounts of poor sleep. I started taking Advil a few days ago (on Drs advice) to avoid discomfort durin...
