What are bands for?

I went in for an adjustment and they put bands on my last molars. I failed to ask what this does since they're not attached to wires. Does anyone know what the purpose is?

Teeth feel 'tight'

My teeth feel...well, what I can only describe as tight! I’ve had my braces for about a month now and each morning when I first wake up, my teeth feel tight. I wonder if this is because I clench my teeth or is it from inactivity while sleeping gives the bands a chance to tighten more? I don’t kn...

This is my third female dentist and ortho. Come to think of it all 3 offices were fully run and staffed by women. One has a husband who's a doctor.

I tried the Shock Doc Mouth Guard for braces and hated it. It feels very uncomfortable against my braces, I can't speak at all without holding it in place, lots of extra saliva upon removal and breathing through the mouth is difficult. So having used it, I don't recommend it. I liked the boil-to-cus...

I had a cleaning first and then a consultation. I went to my fiances dentist after watching him undergo extensive treatment for a few years and winding up with a really beautiful smile. I decided to give his dentist a try with a cleaning. While there, she went over everything that I would need done ...

 I am constantly looking in the mirror. Most times things look pretty clean. I ate out yesterday. Had minestrone soup and sat at a counter. It was a serious chore. The food practically falling out of my mouth. It felt like everything was stuck right in the front of my braces. Then a friend came...

My dentist butchered the bonding on my front teeth and gave me a poor porcelain filling. I'd been with her all my life and was reluctant to switch orthos but after the bonding debacle I said never again. My new ortho told me that a few of my fillings were missing and broken. She redid them plus the ...

Hi Joney, I understand your frustration. I've been going to the dentist once a week for the past 6 weeks and it's about a 45 minute drive from my home. I've had corrections on bad filling jobs from my previous dentist, new fillings, extractions, root canal, crown, incredibly painful spacers and now ...

This board covers everything! :D I just got braces and have immediately noticed my lips are very dry. I carry MAC Lipglass, Burt’s Bees Beeswax Lip Balm and Blistex Medicated Balm. The Blistex is my favorite.

I'm Finally Braced... Well, Half Way...

Well I'm no longer 'miserable' but learning to adapt. I went to the dentist on Tuesday, had a baby tooth pulled and my top braces put on along with an applicance. My bottom braces wouldn't fit over my new crown since I was fitted before they discovered they had to do a root canal which lead to the c...

Okay, I'm just going to go in there, be brave and suck it up. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that they won’t have to stay in for some reason. I’ve gotten my appetite back and made some amazing mashed potatoes yesterday. I’ve also been doing shakes, butternut squash, yogurt, soup and I also j...

Is it common for the dentist to numb the area when they remove the spacers?

I don’t see how they can take the ones that are embedded out without some sort of pain reliever. This is what I’m dreading the most.

Thanks for the words everyone. Today was definitely one of my better days. Just 2.5 days to go before they're (hopefully) removed!
