I change my elastics 3-4 times a day as my ortho instructed me to. I've had mine for a week now and haven't really seen any movement yet. People's teeth move at different speeds, and most people who wear elastics have them for months anyway. Don't be afraid to change yours more often. They do lose s...

Congratulations! Don't worry if your Herbst makes a little noise, mine did and no one else ever seemed to notice. Cleaning is REALLY hard with the Herbst especially on the bottom front teeth. Flossing was pretty much impossible for me, and I ended up with a lot of tartar build-up. I strongly suggest...

yeah my teeth are definitely very sore! :soremouth: I'm on soft foods again for now, so hopefully it will get better soon. It hurts most right after I change the elastics, when I put new ones on, ouch!

My gaps unfortunately didn't close overnight, but I'm sure they will very soon! :D

How long did you have them on? I've had mine for two years so far (probably have six months to one year left)

got elastics today

That's right, I'm now an official member of the elastics club! I finally moved to the next stage in my treatment today. I wear them from top canine to bottom first molar on each side. Like many of you guys, the elastics at my ortho are named after animals, mine are "Galapagos Island Tortoise&qu...

TheShmo is right, spacers are usually the worse than the appliances (and I had them twice, so I would know!). For me, the Herbst didn't cause too much actual pain (I was a bit sore at first, but that was it), but I had trouble chewing for like two weeks after I got it because my back teeth didn't m...

I was told the same thing as newbie , that surgery would be the best option to correct my moderate overjet (that's a horizontal overbite). I went with the Herbst, though, to save money and because I felt it was less invasive. While the results will likely not be as perfect as surgical results would'...

I would advise you to give the Herbst a little longer than two weeks. It might take you longer than that to get used to it. I would say that you should give it a month. Your Herbst shouldn't get stuck if you don't open your mouth wide. You can start practicing this now so you don't have troubles whe...

I'll be honest, I really didn't like the Herbst appliance. That being said, you will get used to it, though it might take a couple weeks. Just make sure you don't open your mouth too wide as the appliance gets stuck when you do, and that's embarrassing! Remember, the alternative to the Herbst would ...

I had the Herbst appliance on for about a year, and I got it off last August. In adults, I guess the Herbst is supposed to push your top molars back (kinda like headgear) to create enough space to eventually push your top front teeth back. You can expect a LOT of discomfort with the Herbst for the f...

Got my Herbst appliance out today

I haven't been on the board for a long time, but I thought I'd let everyone here know that I've reached the next major milestone in my orthodontic treatment. My awful Herbst appliance (or "the rods in my mouth" as I called them) came out today! :-)o That's right, I'm finally free of that ...

If I open my mouth a bit too wide, my Herbst Appliance will either come apart or get stuck. Occasionally when I'm biting into a sandwich or burger (yes, I'm know I'm not supposed to. . .) or opening my mouth wide to eat a spoonful of food my Herbst will stick and my mouth gets stuck open! Sometimes ...

I think I am the only one on this board with a herbst currently. Nope, I have a Herbst too, but I just haven't really been checking the board much lately. As Katiebug mentioned, the Herbst does have a bar that runs behind your bottom front teeth. You will talk funny for the first week or so,...

Did it take a while to get used to Sally? Your teeth look lovely BTW. Thanks! It didn't take too long to get used to my Herbst. As you can see from the pics (which are from when I first got it), my molars didn't touch at first. It took a little less than two weeks for my back molars to touch and I ...
