I've just had my first stage of an implant completed (yesterday!) It didn't hurt at all as they fully numb the area where you are having it done. Mine's an upper central incisor. I was told I couldn't have the implant done till after my braces had come off as when the braces are on the teeth are sti...

Another downside is you may need a bone graft for an implant..
It takes up to 6 months for the bone to take the implant and for a crown to be placed.

Interesting stuff about the implants.

I need either an implant or bridge to replace a missing upper central incisor.

From what I understand these are the main differences: Implant gets permanently fixed into jaw, lasts round 30 yrs, downside is it is very invasive and takes a while to heal. Bridge lasts round 15 yrs, less invasive as attached behind the two neighbouring teeth but those teeth suffer as they get fil...

Before I had my jaw surgery you couldn't see my top teeth when I smiled

I had an underbite and had my bottom jaw moved back and top jaw moved forward and down with a hip graft taken.

Now you can see my top teeth when I smile.
(My upper jaw was lowered for this reason)

I had upper and lower jaw surgery with a hip graft.

I went into hospital on Monday, had the surgery and went home Wed afternoon.

Having braces on your teeth makes no difference to jaw surgery.
