Re: Long term problems caused by braces, considerning more treatment, seeking help, advice, or support
I wrote a long reply last night that must’ve gotten stuck somewhere in the internet atmosphere. Anyway, to condense my thoughts… RED FLAGS: A “specialist” with more than one area of specialty A focus on a “Hollywood Smile” or cosmetic work rather than true dental work Being pushy or implying they’re...

Re: Long term problems caused by braces, considerning more treatment, seeking help, advice, or support
I don’t have any insight. The only thing I can say is my Dentist/Orthodontist said she was both, but really turned out to have more of a con artist specialty. I liked her at first (and had a TERRIBLE fear of all things Dentist back then. Now I’m more of a regular dental fear). She upsold everything ...

Re: I feel ready to quit...
I agree with what’s been said. The last few months seem pointless. I can’t honestly say they made that much of a difference visually. If they did something orthodontically, I can’t say. I wore my retainers 24/7 (except to eat) the first full year and then have worn them at night every night since. M...

Re: Getting braces for the first time at 40 tomorrow. Is innovation good?
I had metal braces. Nothing fancy. I started out drinking only water and apple juice with the every other day soda. That lasted a few months before I went back to soda full time. I didn’t get any staining on my teeth. I always used a straw and swished with water right after I drank a soda. Ice might...

I have 23! 11 upper, 12 lower. One at the top never came in. 4 premolar extractions to make room for my braces to align. All 4 wisdom teeth extracted.

Re: Buying retainer online - bad idea?
I tried to buy a retainer online, but even after braces, my bite still isn’t perfect. So after three tries (extra putty was sent to me) I still couldn’t get the impressions to be perfectly centered on the tray. It’s probably a hit or miss process. Worth a try, just make sure you order from a company...

Usually it’s Crest Pro Health. But Twice is pretty good too. A little messier, but not as strongly minty.

Re: Scared to get White Spots...
I switched from brown colas to clear juice and fruit punch for like the first year of braces. I also always used a straw whenever I had a Coke or Pepsi. I had teeth cleanings every other month. I think those were more just to make money off me than a necessity. I brushed and flossed well daily. I sw...

Re: When will I be able to eat some sort of solid food
I got braces at 28. For me, the best thing was to chew through the soreness. There was plenty of poking early on. Wax was an absolute must. And of course the soreness that accompanies wire changes and the early days of braces. Chew. Chew like normal. I’m telling you the soreness will be gone in a da...

I remember smiling big after getting wire changes.
Without it, they’d be poking my cheeks until I got them trimmed.

Re: Braces and subsequent dental work
It all comes down to your starting point before braces. Have you been checked for any cavities, loose fillings, gum disease, etc,? Once your Dentist declares your teeth and gums healthy enough for braces, it’s all about brushing and especially flossing daily. Several times a day if necessary. If you...

Re: Best way to clean a clear retainer - hints and tips please!
Retainer Brite never really did much for me. Same with denture tablets. I wash my retainers every night with Dawn. Making sure to rinse them well. To me if Dawn is safe enough to wash dishes and utensils with, then it’s safe enough to wash my clear retainers with. My Dentist/Orthodontist originally ...
