I think you'll be fine if you have friends popping in, I spent one night in hospital then was pretty much on my own for the next couple of days. However, do have a contingency plan in place in case you have complications. I picked up a tummy bug and had vomiting and diarrhoea on Friday into Saturday...

5 days post op - photos

Thanks for the lovely replies, very nice of everyone. I've attached a link to my photos, I would have put them on sooner but picked up a wee tummy bug so have been a bit ill over the past few days. Feeling better now, I just hope the sickness hasn't done anything to my jaw. I see my surgeon on Tuesd...

5 days post op - photos

I had my op on Tuesday afternoon, a 6mm BSSO advancement and one wisdom tooth extraction. I can't believe it's all over and I'm feeling so great, I think I've been pretty lucky with my recovery so far. Everyone says that the waiting is the worst part and it's so true, I was a wreck and spent most of...

Hi Daveyboy, good luck for next week. I had BSSO advancement yesterday and feel great, I'm so chuffed I did it. The swelling isn't pleasant, but it is only temporary, and the final results will be well worth it. I had antibiotics to prevent infection and steroids for the swelling through my IV while...

Surgery on March 4th

Eek, I can't believe I just typed that! It's my turn on March 4th guys, BSSO to correct a 3mm overbite and 9mm overjet. I'm too busy flapping over work stuff to get anxious about it, I'm more excited than anything else. Anyway, I just wanted to say to anyone still waiting on a date, who thinks that ...

Thanks very much for taking the time to respond everyone, it is very much appreciated :D . I will ask my OS why he objects to arnica, but I don't see myself trying to argue my case. He's a wee bit obnoxious, so I'd prefer to choose my battles carefully. I'm in the process of finding out if I can hav...

Arnica, catheters and stress

I saw my surgeon for a pre-op consult yesterday, and we're looking at doing the op in February 08. I wondered if anyone would share their thoughts or experiences of arnica? My surgeon says he doesn't like it, but that I can argue my case and try and persuade him feel strongly about it. Do you guys t...

Hi Karen, thanks for your reply. That's really good advice you've given me, by all accounts he is a brilliant surgeon and I'm going to try and focus on that. To be fair, I was probably coming across as a wee bit defensive, because I had all these people staring at me and I was a bag of nerves. I'm g...

Hi Kerry, I'm also from the UK and will be having a lower jaw advancement in Glasgow in the new year. I don't have much experience of the NHS so far, but my ortho has been absolutely brilliant. I'm not so keen on my surgeon, I find him a bit patronising, wish my ortho could perform my surgery :D . I...

Congratulations Brandy, that's fantastic news, your teeth and bite both look amazing. I've been reading you blog, and I've found it so informative, and I'd ike to say a huge thank you for posting your list of questions. I saw my surgeon today for a pre op consult, and I'd have been lost without them...

Be careful you're not putting too many potions on your skin, if you strip it of it's natural oils you'll actually make it want to produce more oil, and this makes the acne worse. I'd use a gentle oil free cleanser twice a day, and a light mouisturiser only where the skin feels a bit tight. It's a go...

Clover's Surgical Consult

I saw my surgeon and ortho at a joint clinic today, and I'm apparently almost ready for surgery. I have to go back in December and hopefully get a date, why they couldn't have just given me a rough date today is anyone's guess. He said my lower advancement will be about 5mm, probably no splint or ti...

Thanks for the comments and kind wishes - much appreciated  Karen - I haven't had surgery yet, but I'm due to see my ortho and surgeon next Tuesday, so hopefully they'll give me an idea of when it will be done. So, to continue, I've had my top arch bonded since last September, and my lowers we...

Have you ever had a vision in your mind about what someone will look like? I had an image of my surgeon being a dark haired bloke in his forties, with dodgy facial hair, so I was completely unprepared for the dream that awaited me in scary orthos office. This guy looks like he should be on ER, scary...

Teeth Wired for Sound - Clover's Story

I'm completely excited and chuffed with myself. Never mind the teeth, I managed to get a couple of pics from my mobile onto photobucket all by myself! I feel such a glow of achievement. Anyway, I digress, back to the teeth. I lived with the charming mouthfull pictured below for 25 years before decid...
