It's a catch 22 stereotype. People say braces = geeky and frumpy. Yet how many times have you heard someone say "why doesn't she just get her teeth fixed?". My own father, who is not normally like that, said it about Jool. And I think her teeth are fine. (But apparently she gets bad press ...

I'm not convinced it is perfect though. I thought about it because I dread braces. DREAD it. But, if you look at the web page for 6 month braces, there are problems with the peoples smiles and bites (if those are natural bites). It is about esthetics and not so much about bite. It even says on there...

I have also wondered about this and posted about it a while ago asking if anyone had done this before. Although it looks as though no one has, it seems to me like a viable option. The only issue I can see is extra time and cost. Invisalign seems to take a bit longer for more minor corrections, so it...

My aunt didnt have braces when she was going through chemo, but she did have mouth ulsers and the usual inflammation. Like others have said, baking soda rinses and salt water were most effective. I think the rinse that Rory was mentioning would be a good idea because the truth is, when you feel so r...

I have also heard that putting a bit of vicks vapo rub under your nose helps. I don't quite know why. Maybe the smell tricks you ear /nose/ throat part of the brain???!!! I haven't a clue! But apparently it works for many.

If it's the same ortho, did (s)he say which treatement (s)he preferred and why? I have been wondering why/if I need extractions when my teeth used to fit in my mouth pre-wisdoms (out now). If would be great to hear the reasoning for both. If they can do it in less time without removing, why take out...

Oh no! As big as cheereo's!?
I think I better think this through seriously. I don't know if I can handle that for so long. I just feel foolish with my lip sticking out that much :(

I worry about this too. I don't care so much how it feels, but I do care about how it looks. Backwards, eh? Even if it gets to feel normal after a few weeks, does it still look like your lips are protruding??? I have very thin lips.

Braces then invisalign anyone??

I am looking into braces at age 30 and dred it completely. The first time round caused me so much emotional trauma that I avoided dentists for years (sensitive teens!!!). A consult suggested that for my vanity I can start with traditional braces and get them off sooner than normal and finish up with...

hmmm. Just wrote something and posted it but it disappeared. Sorry if tis is a repost. I heard some people talking about needing gum grafts for thin gums at the root, but I don't know if they were second timers or just people with naturally thin gums. I'd ask about yours at the next appointment just...

second timers

Just wondering, as I consider being braced for a second time in my life, what stress it is on the gums and teeth. Have any of you second timers had troubles relating the the stress of braces twice over? Any root problems, thin enamel or gums? Is it more likely for those going through it twice than f...

Dr., extraction questions

I am looking into getting braces for the second time in my life. The first time was when I was 12 and I had two extractions on the top (2nd bicuspids I think). I had none on the bottom. I was too young to ask questions about why they only took from the top, but I think it was because I have a recess...
