Well, I'm six weeks post-op, and today I called my surgeon to ask if it would be ok to get a lip ring. I had planned on going to get one tonight, but he said I shouldn't and that I need to wait. I stopped by the piercing studio anyway just to get the piercer's opinion, and he said I should wait unti...

I can understand your frustration/impatience with waiting. In my opinion though, a genioplasty alone would not look nearly as good as a lower advancement. A genio might balance your face out and give you that extra chin but your neck/jawline would look the same as it does now and you would be missin...

Unwanted movement..what is that, exactly, or how does it occur? What happened in your case?

but I always make sure to sleep with them on,and wear them majority of the time. I slept with elastics in the first couple of weeks or so but each morning I would wake up in the wee hours of the morning nearly in tears from a headache. I don't know why but they caused my jaw muscles to tense or som...

So my question is (this no-editing option is driving me crazy), how important is it to wear elastics post-op? Did you have to wear them, and if so, did your surgeon tell you what they were for? Do they help in preventing relapse movement? Or are they actually for teeth movement like my surgeon told ...

importance of post-op elastics?

Hey all, I am nearly 4 weeks post-op. My surgeon has me in elastics right now. I thought it was to get my jaw muscles used to the new position to prevent the risk of relapse, but he said it was to help the orthodontist along with some teeth movement (I haven't seen the ortho yet and won't for anothe...

Re: WWYD?

So the Ortho says I have an underbite causing my bite to be "about half a tooth off" and is suggesting surgery. I am really questioning the need for surgery/recovery for "about half a tooth", it just sounds extreme. Would you opt for surgery or getting close with braces and call...

Hmm, I'm not sure how far they moved my jaw, but I know the genio was 6mm.

Perhaps you've answered this in an earlier post that I haven't seen, but just curious -- why did you opt for an implant instead of a genio? Or was that the surgeon's decision?

Hey suetemi... Just checking in to see how you are doing? Hope your recovery is going well. -Chicago29 Hey there, recovery is going well. Most of the feeling has returned except for my lower lip and chin are still swollen and numb :-( Ah well, it's been only 2 weeks. Now I'm just biding my time til...

1) the day before 2) about 15 minutes 3) mine were these thin wires that they just tied tightly onto the archwire. I don't know how to describe them but they looked sort of like very thin, tiny silver hair pins (bobby pins) and they just twisted them into hook-shaped . 4) I still have the hooks in b...

Awesome, thanks for posting. I also had upper/lower/genio and am a little over a week post-op so it's good to see what sort of de-swelling to expect over the next 3 weeks or so. My splint is really annoying me too, but not as much as the sutured wounds along the insides of my mouth (they make it rea...

By the way, how long were you in the hospital? Given the vomiting of blood I would assume they kept you there until that stopped. Did they say what caused that? I have heard of people doing that once after surgery, but not more than that. Two nights. Actually I probably vomited straight blood only ...

neck muscle issue with jaws?

Hey all, Before my surgery I always used to use the right side of my mouth to chew food pretty much exclusively. Now after surgery, when my surgeon banded me, the left side of my face starting from my temple and going down to my chin spasmed and hurt a lot. I noticed that there was an inclination to...
