EXPANDER NIGHTMARE!!

Don't worry fellow braced one, the pain does go away! If I looked back on this website I would see my post re: this problem, back in July. I wanted to get it ripped out only hours after it went in! It is now December and the expander is out, my palette is wider and braces never felt so easy. The har...

Red raw tongue - Help!

I know this topic has been asked before or mentioned in passing on other subjects but specifically to my dilemma: What is the best way people have found to deal with indentations and sores on your tongue from an expander appliance? I have had a quadhelix for three months now, but I am currently ill ...

Quadhelix hell!

Hi Izzy, I had my quadhelix fitted exactly three months ago and I thought I would never get away from speaking like daffy duck. But it does get better. I would say come my third-fourth week I was back to about 95% and though there are words now that I still have a little trouble saying, your tongue ...

I wanted ceramic on both the top and bottom, but could only get them on the top due to the way my teeth sit. My ortho stated that if I had them on the bottom the two would hit and ceramic braces are slightly more prone to coming off/breaking than metal and so next week I get the bottom metals on! I ...

Arch expander

Just a quick note. I have had an expander in the top of my jaw for the past eight weeks and both myself and my ortho have seen massive movement. I have the 'quad-helix' expander, which is like the W expander, that doesn't require tightening. There is a debate in the dental world that expanders in Ad...

Spacers, schmacers!

I had spacers for 8 days before getting my Quadhelix appliance fitted and like the other comments, I didn't really feel any pain with them. They were however one of the most annoying things I have ever had to put up with. It always felt like food was stuck, or my tongue would keep playing with it co...

Early August Embracers!!

Yesterday was d-day for me and I endured 30 minutes of having my top teeth braced with Ceramics. Like many of you the first thing I noticed was the zig-zaggedness of the braces and wires and it really made me think something must be up with my teeth! Growing up in New Zealand I wasn't happy with my ...

I am going through the same thoughts as you are!! But this board has certainly helped. I have had my quadhelix (palate expander) on for two days now and I am getting used to it already. My speech is way off being normal but hopefully day by day eating and speaking will become better. I get my top br...

I have a quad helix and never thought to ask the dentist when it would be likely to come off. The whole treatment time he placed at 18 months, so I hope I don't have to put up with it for the entire time I hate it!! I get my top braces in three weeks so I will be sure to ask. I have a problem with t...

I know what you're feeling!!

Ghotieyes I am hearing you!! I got my expander put in yesterday and I have considered many things over the past 24 hours......getting them removed, pulling them out myself, quitting the whole thing, jumping off a building!!!!! I hate it!! I can't talk properly, I can't eat ANYTHING!! It feels like e...
