OK I see. Well that is a real bummer. My surgery was almost 3 years ago. I was considering a well respected surgeon who was closer to where I live but "out of network" his fees would have been about $16,000 for upper, lower and genio. That was more than I had on hand so I easily see how must feel. I...

If he is in-network than he has agreed to a contracted price for doing the surgery and he can't charge more. If he is really out-of-network and your insurance made a clerical error than that stinks for you but I would guess there is little your insurance company can do other than fix their mistake. ...

I'm sorry to ready your story and I hope you find a solution. The problem is that insurance companies don't respect how specialized this surgery really is and tend to underpay surgeons so therefore alot of surgeons opt not to accept many insurance companies when it comes to this type of surgery. I h...

I had inspire ice brackets (they are off now). I was a second timer going through jaw surgery. I was very happy with how "invisible" they were. My ortho used wire ties throughout (not ligs) which didn't stain and couldnt be seen. I had power chains now and then and used the "pearl" color. They were ...

I just wanted to say that I had full cermaics for my wedding. There are only a few very up close pictures that you can see them if you are looking for them. The rest of the pictures you can't tell a bit. I had double jaw surgery about 10 months prior. My hubby had seen the worst of me (look wise) th...

I had a lefort 1 (with palate widening), BSSO, and genioplasty. I remember waking up and just saying, "Is it over?", "Is it over?"....to my boyfriend (now hubby). The weird thing about this surgery to me was the fact that nothing hurt. I was so numb in the early stages pain was not an issue. I did h...

I would think it important to discuss this with your surgeon. Oral surgeons are usually concerned about aesthetics when moving the jaw. Some facial proportions are different for males and females. They do alot of measurements and come of with the best plan for the bite and the overall appearance. Ar...

I want to point out that I has braces as a youth as well. When they came off I had retainers and wore them as prescribed and eventually stopped. I had a skeletal issue as a youth that was not recognized. My teeth were corrected around this issue in the early 80s and therefore my results were not sta...

I had upper and lower jaw surgery to correct and open bite. My ortho als said that jaw surgery should produce a stable bite if done well (and the ortho sets the teeth well). Jaw surgery with braces should be able to acheive a "perfect" bite. He is of the opinion that the bite should maintain itself....

Happy story. I started dating my now husband about a month before I got braces. I waited until about a week before I actually got my braces to tell him I was heading toward braces (and upper and lower jaw surgery) over the next year and half. It made no difference to him at all, it was he liked me f...
