Re: Plate removal 10 years after BSSO -terrified!

Hi Karl a Thank you for your reply. :) I am in the UK and the surgery is on the NHS, the consultant I saw is the top one for the group of hospitals and the plate is causing me pain and I can actually feel it in my mouth now, so I know it does need to come out - doesn't stop me being scared though! I...

Plate removal 10 years after BSSO -terrified!

Hi all :D I used to be a regular member of these forums after having braces and bsso surgery in 2008. A couple of months ago I started to get pain in my lower jaw and my dentist believed it may have been the plate (as any dental reason for pain was ruled out.) I saw the maxillo facial consultant in ...

Sorry to hear about your infection. A similar thing happened to me, but i only had infection on one side. Like you it was obvious from the beginning that something was very wrong. The link to my blog is at the bottom of this post and it tells the whole story. Good luck with getting this sorted out, ...

sauerkraut-thank you for your concern :) and the nic comment about how positively i coped 1st time round. May try getting another opinion but since i had the op on the NHS in the UK this may not be so easy, as my surgeon is the only NHS orthaganthic surgeon in this area. Although i had my problems w...

Hey I had one of my plates taken out due to infection around it after surgery. The surgery is nothing compared to the orginal op, and i was in theatre about 45 mins (longer than usual as they had to clear the infection out.) I was able to go home within an hour of waking up from the operation and th...

Please get in touch if you have any questions or want to talk to someone else who knows how your feeling. Havent bee...

Hi scm007 I just had thr BSSO, but literally right up to surgery a lefort was a possibility too. Infact until about 6 weeks before op a lefort was a definate. My surgeon decided that he was happy to do the op on the lower jaw alone, but said it was at the extreme of his comfort zone. Looking back no...

Its very normal to be thinking worse case (or i know i was anyway) but im sure itll all go well this time. As for your concerns about the blood pressure, effects of surgery on your body etc, i had a terrible time with the anesethic and painkillers the 1st time, but as this was noted in my records, w...

Hey Beth

Definatley sounds like you are getting close, in my case the ortho said i was ready, but the surgeon disagreed, but once the surgeon was happy i think i had about a 12 week wait between being booked in and the op.

Id just make sure you tell the anesthioligist as Karl says, last thing you want is them postponing the op.

I was on anti anxiety drugs before op, and they were fine, tho did have a few side effects with pain relief, so definately check in advance.

I had my jaw advanced 13mm and the swelling was about what i expected, one side was completley numb and the other was completley awake straight after op, so i did have some pain, but was soon given pain killers. I was in hosp for 2 nights (should have been 3 but discharged myself) but i did have som...
