Hi Li, I have both! As recommended by my ortho, I had the fixed wire top and bottom 6 teeth and also the retainers to wear at night. I've had them both for 14mths now and not had any problems at all. At first my tongue kept going towards the cement that holds the wires in place, but that has gradual...

Hi Sandy, It sounds like you've possibly made your decision, but I'd like to add some encouragement as well. I'm afraid I can't help with the TMJ, but I wanted to say Yes!.....absolutely go ahead with it. If you have crooked teeth and want to do something about it, then why not? I treated myself to ...

A bite plate is not the end of the world.... unless you decide it is. Very wise words. I had a bite plate for 14months. When I first got it I thought 'Am I ever going to talk properly again?'. Then I thought 'I want nice teeth and I am prepared to do anything to get them' . I stuck with it and am s...

I only went for one consult with the ortho recommended by my dentist. At the consult I felt completely happy with his approach, professionalism and manner. I decided and began treatment there and then. I have been more than happy with my choice.

Hi dimplez23, I have had my TPA since the start of treatment, so almost 2 yrs now. And, yes, I do also have the pretty imprint tattooed on my tongue! I'm sure it will go as soon as the TPA does so I shouldn't be too concerned about it. Sometimes its not noticable though and other times it is more pr...

Hi NZGirl, I'm certainly not going to laugh at you, I wouldn't dream of it, and neither do I think you are crazy. I would say that if you are not happy with your teeth as they are, and if they are causing you discomfort then I'd have a word with your dentist about a referral for an appointment with ...

I can't compare the bite plate to bite turbos as I only had the bite plate. At first I thought 'How am I going to get used to speaking with this thing in'? But, I did and I had it for 14 months in all and it did a brilliant job, I'd use it all over again if necessary, infact I got so used to wearing...

Hi mg, I've had a TPA for almost 2 yrs. I can't really think of much to tell you about it other than be careful when eating stringy pasta as it sometimes get wrapped round it! Apart from that, I don't see it and I don't feel it. Some people have said that it shreds your tongue, but I've never experi...

Hi DireWire, I did have a chuckle to myself when I read your post. I had a bite plate for 14months and I recall not being able to pronounce my 's' 'k' 'th' and many other letters of the alphabet. I went back to work after having the appliances fitted feeling very self conscious. The first colleague ...

Hi again Elpi, I aim to confuse!! Initially the 2 extractions were advised to make room to fully reduce my 13mm overjet. I begged not to have them removed and DG said that he'd see how far my teeth went back, and I'd probably have the choice to keep the 2 teeth and partially reduce the overjet or ha...

Hi Elpi, Greetings from the sunny south coast! I'm right behind you in your decision to get braced. My initial consult advised 2 extraction which I dreaded, but I'm almost 2 years on and they now don't seem necessary at all due to the way things have gone. And I began with a 13mm overjet! I only had...
