Re: Those who have been in braces for 3 years or more
Estimated 'about' 3 years. Second round of braces to 'undo' retraction following extractions to treat overjet. Such a long process as we had to re-open the extraction spaces (with a fixed expander), stabilise the expansion, then start the 3 year braces journey (this all after splinting the retracted...

Re: What can I do to avoid extractions in my daughter?
My 4yo had sleep apnea, diagnosed at 3yrs & treated with tonsil- & adenoidectomy a year ago. She now sleeps through for the first time in her life but has the underdevelopment of the maxilla apparently common with the mouth-breathing sleep apnea kids. She has a crossbite, speech issues and h...

Re: extraction gaps
For what it's worth I wanted to add, for my own situation I deeply regret having healthy teeth extracted. My initial consultation specifically ruled out any extractions. My ortho went as far as to bracket all my teeth, place the archwire and then changed his mind at last minute and suggested extract...

Re: extraction gaps
I had my upper bicuspids extracted to treat an overjet also. It wasn't the largest ever overjet but it was enough to bother me so off to the ortho I went. Retracting the uppers constituted the bulk of the treatment, but as the overjet was not huge, the gaps were partly closed with the molars coming ...

Re: Molar Bands
I had molar bands with my first round of braces, with a 2nd set of bands added partway thru treatment. This time I also have molar bands, but currently also have a single upper bracket on one side second molar. My dentist was going to use brackets on my 2nd molars, & bonded one side to that effe...

Re: Who knew these tiny blue spacers could hurt so much....
Oh yes, they're a pain alright but it does get better. The first 4 or 5 days are the worst, & after a week or so you can almost forget they're there. Trust me, I get 8 spacers in my lower arch for 2 weeks every month, so far over the course of two lots of braces I've had 41 spacers, with 8 more ...

Re: How many did you do?
I haven't posted for a while: 8 more spaces brings me up to 41, then last appointment I get an unexpected reprieve - a month off! I was so excited my dentist laughed & said "well you're easy to please". Too right, I loath the roundabout of spaces in- spaces out- spaces in.... !

Re: Braces at 29 - Round Two
I'm on my second round too, it looks like there's quite a few of us! I had my first round as an adult, wore them for about 18mths. All was fine & I was happy with the results. I wore my retainers faithfully & my teeth stayed pretty much put. Unfortunately 'put' looked great but wasn't such a...

Re: What was the last straw for you?
It wasn't really a 'last straw' situation for me. Once the cause of my near-constant headaches then migraines was identified as a retracted mandible, the only options were either wearing a splint forever, or reversing my earlier ortho work. Doing nothing was literally not an option. Once I started w...

Re: How many did you do?
8 more spacers went in this month, so officially I'm up to 33. I wonder what the Guinness Book of Records has to say on ortho spacers??

Re: What is SEATING?
Sounds like what I had done at the end of my first round in braces. I never knew what it was called (I had no warning that it would be happening), I was just told I had to come in for an extra appointment the day before debanding. I turned up as requested and had a student ortho start effectively wi...

Re: Got 4 teeth extracted for braces, what to do?
I don't see how moving your molars forward can cause sleep apnea or lessen room for your tongue - what are the specifics of these issues? My molars are being moved forward; I already had sleep apnea which my dentist is well aware of & hopes might improve. My tongue space was also noted by two se...
