PIMPmyTEETH, I encourage you to do 24-36 months in braces & get mandibular advancement. I encourage you to get your bite corrected and improve the overjet more than just slightly. If you're absolutely sure that you'll be okay with having class II malocclusion, then go for the Invisalign. 36 mont...

An ortho who said that I need 2 extractions told me that my face would look slightly different - ortho treatment would move back my lips and make my chin a little more prominent. He drew a picture to try and illustrate that. Another ortho who said I need 4 extractions told me that my lips, cheeks, &...

An ortho suggested one TPA for me, to hold back my first molars after premolar extractions.

I can see where it would make sense to have 2 TPA's. It will be worth it in the end when you have a great smile! Good luck!

My premolar extractions will be about $21 per tooth with my dental insurance.

I've read many posts on here saying that premolar extractions are quicker, easier, and less painful than wisdom tooth extractions. :D

Thanks so much DrBill. One ortho mentioned extracting the upper premolars and one lower incisor. I knew immediately that I didn't want to do that though, because I want a midline on the bottom. He's one of the orthos that said he would minimize the bottom teeth and I'd keep my bottom premolars.

cowlypso, I had 7 opinions, so I encourage you to go ahead and get opinion after opinion until you're comfortable with choosing an ortho!

I haven't had extractions yet, but I just wanted to say good luck and I hope everything goes well. I have to have premolars extracted also.

The orthos I've had consults with have all said that I need extractions. One ortho said 20 months, another said 2 or 3 years, and the rest said about 2 years for treatment time.

ohmyjaw - You didn't scare me! When I started getting consults I was not expecting to hear that I needed extractions. I thought that the first ortho I saw was absolutely crazy! I guess I'm still not over the shock even though I've had so many orthos tell me I need extractions. Lisa65 - Thanks for sh...

There have been other threads where people talked about how they switched orthos. Here's one: http://www.archwired.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=12552&highlight=changing. I left my ortho after getting records done. They also put molar bands and a TPA in. I had those taken out after a few months. I ...

Hi Elle! Welcome! Your description of your teeth sounds like my teeth. You deserve to be happy with your teeth and you deserve to have the proper bite. I think that getting braces is a great decision for you!

Needing implants in the future is a fear that I have, so I'm leaning towards the 2 who said they would do interproximal reduction/shaving on the bottom. I guess the worst case scenario would be that I would need veneers if that went wrong.

Delag - I saw your thread about IPR, which is what the 2 orthos want to do with my bottom teeth. My hairdresser told me she would rather get 4 extractions than get top extractions and bottom teeth slenderized. She's had consults with orthos who told her she needs 4 bicuspids out. No one told her tha...
