Re: Lower lingual arch

Hi, I had a lower lingual arch and TPA, neither of which cut my tongue, just a little harder to floss no big deal.

Re: Moving molars forward

Here is a link to a YouTube clip where an orthodontist says molars can be moved forward with a facemask even in adults. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=7c_uMXMtgBo

Re: I need advice on my edge-to-edge bite. I'm about to go crazy

Sounds like you are class 3. I'd see what an ortho thinks, tell them you're not happy, usually they don't like to leave people class 3. If braces/elastic did not work there are other options. If recommended surgery may work but it's a difficult recovery. I'd also ask about TAD's or a facemask If I w...

Re: Jaw surgery and relapsed

That sucks that you had relapse after two surgeries. I never had surgery but it was strongly recommend to me. I chickened out and got headgear instead. My orthodontist mentioned I may have relapse but he sees that with surgery as well including a few patients that have needed multiple surgeries thou...

Re: Huge open bite mostly fixed without surgery

Yah they are reluctant because if it doesn't work, some patients get upset and want their money back, sue, complain etc. And the surgery is more predictable. Most adults would refuse headgear. Glad you found someone, I t took me 10 years to find someone. I can confirm the 1000% part on the complianc...

Re: Huge open bite mostly fixed without surgery

I think ill be a little longer yet. As mentioned there were some big delays in my treatment due to my refusal to get jaw surgery, but it's getting close. Yah they pretty much assume headgear is a waste of time and will not consider it unless there are no other option. I had to be on a surgical waitl...

Re: I feel ready to quit...

Hang in there, I got braces about the same time as you, and whilst my bite is mostly fixed there are still a few small issues so I don't know how much longer I will be in braces but I think it will be at least 4 years. Sometimes I get sick of the hassles like how long flossing takes, or how nice it ...

Re: Month 5 - reverse curve wire and chains

Good old IRP, I love it how they say they are polishing your teeth when they are really grinding them. I will never forget the smell, its smell just like drilling/grinding/cutting concrete. Welcome, thou there's not alot of activity on this forum anymore for some reason.

Re: Post Your COVID-19 Orthodontic Stories or Concerns

I chickened out of my lefort 1/BSSO, the price: an extra 1-2 yrs in braces, and the addition of headgear. So far I am glad to have skipped the lefort.

Re: Huge open bite mostly fixed without surgery

Yah that's true there are no guarantees, maybe I will have relapse issues, but at least no surgical side effects. Most clinicians also prefer the least invasive option. However it also needs to be shown to be easily and repeatability effective through the best evidence available with average or belo...

Re: Huge open bite mostly fixed without surgery

Really it's no big deal once you get used to it, I can even eat most things with it in. It does very slightly affect speech but nowhere near as much as some palatal appliances.

Re: Poll: At What Age Did You Get Your Braces?

Usually orthos give you a sample pack of various cleaning supplies when the braces go on. Try them out of see what you like. In addition to that some people like a water pick an electric toothbrush. I got my braces at 37.

Re: Huge open bite mostly fixed without surgery

Most orthodontists don't like to deviate from the methods they know best. For a moderate to severe openbite surgery is considered the primary treatment, this is very apparent in the literature. Other methods are much less certain, though there is increasing evidence about the efficacy of posterior i...

Re: Huge open bite mostly fixed without surgery

Yes I read about that technique as well, though I believe it mainly depends on anterior extrusion. From what I understand anterior extrusion is the least stable mode of correction and should be avoided as much as possible. TADs or headgear can intrude the posterior which is thought to be more stable...
