Re: Made it to steel archwire. Curious about steps after (closing gaps)

Hi wiredbee. Glad you are making good progress. Power chains are frequently used to close spaces or gaps between the teeth. Depending on where the gaps are they may make the midline shift but frequently elastics are used to move the midline. Best of luck!

Re: Has anyone gotten braces with short roots?

Hi Elaf. Have you had a recent consultation with any orthodontists? I would suggest having a consultation with a periodontist to make sure that you are a good candidate for orthodontics. I don't really think that it would matter which order you had the consultations but even if you have an orthodont...

Re: First Time in Braces - Getting Extractions Soon!

Welcome! The first few days or weeks with braces are and adjustment but after that you almost forget they are there. (Except when eating, brushing, and flossing) I finished with my braces in July so am now in retention. Treatment estimates especially for adults can be just that, estimates. Both time...

Re: Removing braces before all adjustments done

Hi Justme64, very sorry to hear you are having these issues. I would agree with Dan that a second opinion might be helpful. What does your general dentist think of your bite and what was the reason that your general dentist contacted your orthodontist? If your general dentist regularly refers patien...

Re: Mandible Plate irritation

Sorry to hear you are having problems. I don't have any direct experience with mandible fractures thankfully. The plates can be removed but I think the surgery required to do this is similar in scope to the placement surgery and thus are usually left in place. I have seen where the plate becomes exp...

Re: New here

Hi chele. Sounds like you have had some non supportive reactions to getting braces? Sorry to hear that. I had braces in my fifties to close some spaces left by my high school orthodontist and just finished a third round to close some annoying spaced between the molars in my sixties. I have found mos...

Re: Smile Direct Club Has Filed for Bankruptcy

That is interesting. I have noticed how their advertising has changed over the years to where the care is now "doctor directed". Never understood how they got away with the all at home model Seems like practicing without a license. I see other suspect ads as well as from Aspen Dental where...

Re: I am unsatisfied with my dentist but I don’t know what to say

Hi. In my experience the fee for orthodontic treatment is for the treatment plan not for a specific time period or number of appointments. That is a good thing for those of us that have been on island time. I would think that when the appliance is removed and when the final payment is made would not...

Re: Braces Round 2.. Cankers suck.

Glad to hear that you are doing better, Cankers do suck. Salt rinses help but they kind of condense the pain temporarily then some temporary relief. In case you get a recurrence, most general dental offices have some variation of a "Magic Mouthwash" Has lidocaine viscous and sometimes some...

Re: Enamel staining

I think staining is a fairly common issue with clear brackets plus the wires are not clear. Hopefully the staining is the bracket or the bonding material which is likely the case and not the actual enamel tooth structure. Just keep up with the good home care and things should be ok in the long run. ...

Re: Chain troubles (they suck)

Sorry you are having these problems. It seems a bit odd that the powerchains keep coming off. I have had part of one of the links come loose from either the top or bottom half of the bracket a time or two in which case you just need to stretch the ring back around the wings of the bracket but I have...

Re: Teeth grinding

hi Duallydani. From your post it sounds like you have some issues which orthodontics can address and correct. TMJ issues are frequently multi-factorial. Orthodontics may improve or possibly even resolve your TMJ issues but I would reluctant to refer a patient for orthodontics on the presumption that...

Re: Are my rubber bands placed incorrectly?

Hi AmyA. You are correct in that class II elastics generally run from the upper cuspid to the lower first molar. When I have worn class II elastics that was the set up. Molar brackets generally have a tube for the archwire to slide through and have a hook for elastics as part of the bracket. Premola...
