Re: Molar and pre-molar banding

I suppose you could bring it up with your orthodontist. I have two premolars banded due to fillings, but I didn't ask. My orthodontist explained why and we went ahead. Spacers are horrible, though, fyi.

Re: New here- any advice appreciated!

Ceramic braces tend to be bigger than metal braces, and some people don't like the color after they are applied, but I'm sure you've already made your decision. I have all metal braces, and most people don't really say too much about them at all, at least not until I mention it. Also, be patient wit...

Re: Let's do it again! ... I guess

Bite block are really annoying, so probably they were trying to be helpful. It's difficult to chew anything properly. Glad things are going well for you.

Re: Getting braces in 10 days - should I choose Iconix braces?

If they are the same price as regular braces, I don't see why not. I'm also in my 40s and have self-ligating braces and have found that most people don't say anything about my braces and some haven't even noticed. I just got navy blue powerchains, though, so that will probably change.

Re: How do braces affect speech?

Try to talk A LOT when you get them on. I didn't have much trouble with speaking, but every now and then at first there were words that were harder to say (I don't remember what they were). I talk a lot at my job, and most people didn't notice anything and it was mostly my own self-consciousness tha...

My Braces Journey

So I started this over on https://www.archwired.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=54157 - the introduction forum, but I thought I'd start posting over here since this forum seems more appropriate. Things have been going pretty well the first six months. I thought I was breezing through this whole b...

Re: No pictures were taken?

I had lots of pictures but no molds taken. My ortho's office scans your teeth in, which is kind of cool.

Re: New Here - Braces at 43

So today I was very naughty and snuck some of hubby's soy sauce and wasabi almonds. I ate one, and it went okay, so then I grabbed a few more, and BOOM! Broke a wire. I called the ortho's office and went in. Since I have an appointment scheduled next week, the assistant was going to go ahead and cha...

Re: New Here - Braces at 43

That is super fast progress! I can't believe that's only a couple weeks. How long of a time line did they tell you for a total? He said 24 months. Once he gets the front teeth where they belong, there's still a lot left to do to fix my bite. I think he's trying to get my right canine to recede some...

Re: Can't Chew At All!

It will get better eventually. I went from food I could mash with my tongue against the top of my mouth and now I'm eating chicken and pizza (crusts too), although I do have to be more conscientious about how I eat. Nothing like getting my tongue sliced up from the lingual hooks on my molar bands to...

Re: New Here - Braces at 43

So these pics are from two weeks after I was braced, so almost two weeks behind where I am now, but honestly, I just ate pizza and haven't done my post-meal clean-up yet. I was online checking things for class and got the itch to finally post some pics. This is the front before. As I mentioned befor...

Re: How long is it supposed to take to send a letter??

That doesn't sound normal to me. When my ortho's office sent my extraction request, it was a Thursday, and they said to let them know if I didn't hear back from my dentist by Tuesday (both offices are closed on Fridays). That Tuesday, I was able to make my extraction appointment. I feel like a week ...

Re: Which electric toothbrush do you have and why did you choose it?

I use a Sonicare (e-series I think). We've had it for years, and the brush head replacements are really affordable because there are off-brands available.
