I suppose you could bring it up with your orthodontist. I have two premolars banded due to fillings, but I didn't ask. My orthodontist explained why and we went ahead. Spacers are horrible, though, fyi.

Bite block are really annoying, so probably they were trying to be helpful. It's difficult to chew anything properly. Glad things are going well for you.

If they are the same price as regular braces, I don't see why not. I'm also in my 40s and have self-ligating braces and have found that most people don't say anything about my braces and some haven't even noticed. I just got navy blue powerchains, though, so that will probably change.
