Re: Will it ever feel comfortable again?

Thanks Dan. It's weird that the discomfort and tolerance seem to get harder. Had an adjustment yesterday and discussed bite. But he said it looks like almost perfect class 1, so I guess I'm just not used to a correct bite :-+ On a positive note he says 6-8 more weeks with some additional tweaks, and...

Re: "What A Long, Strange Trip It's Been" - Robert Hunter, Grateful Dead

I purposely haven't asked to avoid the anxiety! I'm at 12 months of a 12-16 month estimate. At my adjustment last month I heard were moving into the end stretch, but still didn't ask, knowing that folks say it's so variable! But yesterday he said, looks good, mentioned the final weeks, what he would...

Will it ever feel comfortable again?

Coming up on a year soon, and after a rocky start never thought I'd get this far. The panic and anxiety has gratefully been under control, and essentially nonexistent the past few months. But it's been replaced by my teeth always being uncomfortable. Pain hasn't been a big issue for me, other than t...

Re: How long were you on Niti wires?

The 14 and 16 were 1 month each. The 18 was 2 months, although the second month was because the change to the 18 stainless made me too anxious at first. Then 3 months in stainless on top, 2 on the bottom, the to 17x21rectangular. Last month was the first with rectangular on top. The rectangular are ...

Re: Got a second opinion mid braces... Advice?

Don't have advice clinically, but might get a second consultation. As for the contract, it is a binding document. That said your dentist can choose to negotiate you, and might on the balance. I doubt you'll get a refund as they also compute cost factors in terms of time and materials already rendere...

Re: How do braces affect speech?

I had some minor trouble the first week or two. Had to talk a bit more slowly/carefully. Not sure anyone else noticed. Now is fine.

Re: Anxiety during treatment

Got braces in October and within 10 days was back at the orthodontist because it triggered panic attacks s that had resolved more than 30 before. Thought I'd have to remove them. My orthodontist had been wonderful. I've been taking medication and working with cognitive therapy. Still anxious but man...

Re: Let's do it again! ... I guess

I also had braces as a teen, with extractions, elastics, headgear, the whole nine. Wore retainers religiously into college when wisdom teeth came in and they didn't fit. Noticed shifting in my 20s on the bottom. My orthodontist was long retired, so saw a new one who tried to resolve it with a spring...

Anyone have experience taking prednisone with braces?

I may have to take prednisone for a medical issue, and if so it will be for at least a few months. I know that it can slow movement because it's an anti-inflammatory drug, but does anyone know if it can have other deleterious effects. I have a call into my orthodontist since there are some other med...

Re: First powerchain and rectangular wire

Wow Andy, sounds like you're moving quickly since the invisalign! I'm trying to take it a day at a time. The short term goal always to manage till the next adjustment  I try not to think ahead. My orthodontist tries to help in that regard, only making general statements about things needing...

First powerchain and rectangular wire

Had my most recent adjustment Saturday. Last month was difficult as I had stainless steel wires for the first time. They felt so tight that when he first tried them in February, I had to go back and he removed them and went back to the niti, the panic attacks increased so much. Did better the second...

Re: First appointment and questions. Changing Ligatures etc.

For me which teeth are generally sore, sensitive to pressure or feel loose changes weekly or daily, and I've just gotten use to this as normal. As for ligature changes its not terribly painful but depends on if it's a tooth that's sensitive that day or they're tying it in more tightly that day.

Re: How long were you on Niti wires?

I had 14, 16 then 18 round niti at each of my first three adjustments. Then 18 round stainless. I had some anxiety issues with the stainless so he put back the 18 niti and now we went back to the 18 stainless this time and I'm 6 months in. It sounds like I'll be with stainless for a while as he's in...
