Re: 2nd braces at age 30 - for bite and gums!

8th adjustment today. My midline got back in line these past few weeks, woot! Fresh power chain on top plus added a power chain on bottom. Bite is great on the right side, so I’m just doing the box elastic at night to maintain it. Left side bite is still wonky? so I have a triangle elastic on upper ...

Re: Orthodontist suggests surgery, any advise would be appreciated.

The first ortho I went to said I had to have surgery, so I got 2 other opinions. The other orthos said 12 and 16 months in braces is all I need since I don't have functional issues. I had an edge-to-edge bite and crossbite, so I think the surgery would have been widening upper jaw and bringing lower...

Re: 2nd braces at age 30 - for bite and gums!

7th adjustment today. I'm also back in elastics, ahhhhhhhh! My teeth are all nice and straight, so it's all about the bite. They removed the bite turbos to start, and the surfaces underneath feel kind of rough and gross. I brushed them rights afterward, so hopefully, they go back to being nice smoot...

Re: 2nd braces at age 30 - for bite and gums!

6th adjustment, time is flying! Apparently, my top teeth are done! They're in the strongest wire to keep them in place with a "sling" of a powerchain still running under the front 4 brackets to get them a bit less flared and more straight up and down. Bottom canines were still a bit rotated from my ...

Re: Complicated case, feeling discouraged

I also wanted to add some encouragement! I was told gum grafts and jaw surgery by one ortho, then just braces by two other orthos. I ended up going a middle route and did 2 gum grafts then put braces on. This delayed getting my braces on by about 6 months, but my gums are doing well and I'm glad tha...

Re: 2nd braces at age 30 - for bite and gums!

Ok once I got home this evening and properly inspected my very sore teeth, I found there’s a lot going on! Steel tie around lower canine that had been super rotated by the class III elastics. Then figure 8 ligatures on all the other bottom teeth. The top is actually a light grey powerchain that is n...

Re: Are they overcorrecting my underbite?

To close the loop on this, YES my teeth were overcorrected! Apparently, they do not assume that people will wear their rubber bands correctly (I think she said 60% of people don't wear them?!) and build in lots of extra time between appointments for elastics to work. Because I wore mine religiously,...

Re: 2nd braces at age 30 - for bite and gums!

Fifth adjustment today. I had posted on the general Metal Mouth forum on July 1 about how my upper lip was sticking out quite a bit and it was hard to press my lips together - I went from an underbite to an overbite since starting with class III elastics in April. I ended up not trying to get an ear...

Re: Are they overcorrecting my underbite?

To compare, see the underbite I had on April 23, day 1 of the elastics. So much overjet now!!

Are they overcorrecting my underbite?

I started with an edge to edge bite. Since April 23 (so about 10 weeks now), I’ve had class III elastics running from upper back molars to lower canines to pull all lower teeth back and all uppers forward. Now I have a crazy overjet, like 5mm or more, causing my upper lip to be sticking out! It’s ha...

Re: 2nd braces at age 30 - for bite and gums!

Fourth adjustment today! The ortho didn't even check my mouth - the tech did everything. Same wire on the bottom and a wider one on top. Still in all powerchains and the same rubber band configuration from upper molars down to lower canines to pull lower teeth back. I asked for darker grey powerchai...

Re: 2nd braces at age 30 - for bite and gums!

A month with just slightly stronger wires flew by - I went to my 3rd adjustment today, and I'll be in this configuration for the next eight weeks! The ortho did a quick check in the beginning and said my bite was already coming together nicely on its own, who would've thought?! Different from ...
