Re: 2nd braces at age 30 - for bite and gums!
Second adjustment today! The ortho said I have a stronger steel wire on the bottom and I think a 16x22 wire on top with some extra pressure on the last 2 teeth that need to straighten out more (a canine and incisor next to each other). At the next adjustment in 5 weeks, we will start to close the ga...

Re: ...And they're off!
Hooray! Similar to you I have an edge to edge bite and a canine in crossbite at the start - you give me hope! Amazing what braces can do!!

Re: Braces story - 28 years old
Oh with the first one (done on a Monday) I kept my face so still, put a note on my door at work that I couldn’t talk all week, and even called the dr to ask if I was allowed to smile after 5 days  of course I was! Maybe like 4-5 days after you should be good? I think the most critical healing p...

Re: 2nd braces at age 30 - for bite and gums!
First adjustment today! And I had just gotten to the stage where I forgot I had braces on sometimes 😂 They put in thicker 16 wires. A few of my teeth really did not enjoy the pressure of putting the new ties on, but so far I have just a small amount of pressure all around my mouth but no major pain....

Re: Tartar plaque around brackets
Since this thread is relevant, I thought I'd add my question here! When/how do you use the interdental brushes in your cleaning routine? Once I noticed the white line under the wire, I've been waterpiking, brushing, scrubbing around all the brackets with the interdental brush using the toothpaste al...

I also had gum taken from my top molars - you can’t even tell now because it healed smooth!

Re: Braces story - 28 years old
The procedure itself is quick for one tooth - like 30min from numbing to leaving! The worst pain I thought was the numbing wearing off and transitioning to the 600mg Ibprofrin. As long as you stay on a pain meds schedule, doesn’t hurt at all - I did the 600mg for 2-3 days for pain/swelling preventio...

Re: Braces story - 28 years old
I had my grafts done prior to braces, and now I go to perio for checkups each 3 months while I’m in braces.

Re: Advice PLEASE!! Gum recession and braces.
I had two gum grafts to thicken the tissue before braces - it’s really not too bad! Avoid talking for a day or two and eat soft foods the first week and you’ll be fine!

Ok to waterpik twice a day?
I’ve had braces almost a month now, and I’ve settled into a routine of waterpiking before brushing both morning and night. I just love how clean my mouth feels with the combo, and then I know no breakfast is stuck in my braces before heading to work. I’m wondering if there’s anything bad about water...

Re: Tartar plaque around brackets
I caved today and got interdental brushes to scrub around each bracket... I think there’s a white line forming behind the wire on two lower incisors where I wasn’t quite brushing with my toothbrush or blasting with waterpik. I also grabbed the purple zero alcohol Listerine for more fluoride! What el...

Re: Let's get real -- How important is flossing with braces?
I can’t NOT floss! I can literally feel the difference in my mouth between going to bed having flossed vs. not having flossed. The bacteria has a buffet to feast on between your teeth if if you don’t floss/waterpik - so without flossing my mouth tastes worse and has more plaque built up when I wake ...

Re: 2nd braces at age 30 - for bite and gums!
2 weeks in and feels pretty normal to be in braces already! I’m noticing spaces opening up between my premolars and canines - gaps aren’t visible but when I floss there’s no resistance to slide between my teeth, crazy! Those are the teeth most sore as most are being tilted out plus a lower premolar ...
